The pang of excitement in the pit of my stomach was a full-blown wave of nausea now.

Holy shit.

On the surface at least, the compatibility was off the charts. The guys ran an outdoor adventure camp, which was almost tailor-made for my skill-set. I’d been a ranch-hand in Wyoming, and a hiking guide in both Washington and Oregon. I’d taught fly fishing as far north as Montana. I’d been a snowboard instructor at Lake Tahoe.

Right now my current love was Sedona, more for its raw, untamed beauty than for the brutally hot temperatures I was only now growing accustomed to. But that’s when I left, usually. As soon as I got comfortable somewhere, a nagging, sing-songy voice in the back of my mind told me it was time to move on.

Yes, but amilliondollars?

My mouth went abruptly dry. I didn’t even want to think about it, for fear of jinxing us.

With a million dollars, maybe youcouldfinally settle down.

My half-lidded eyes fluttered open as I sensed someone standing in front of me. An impeccably-dressed man in a hotel uniform had been trying — and apparently failing — to get my attention.

“Excuse me, miss?” the concierge’s voice chimed politely. “Your room’s ready.”

The man smile went so wide I thought his face might crack in two. I wondered how he could grin like that all day. Whether or not he slept with that smile, or if his face might freeze like that forever.

“Miss?” he asked again. “Would you like your room now?”

“Is the bed in the room softer than this chair?” I asked.

He chuckled pleasantly, and I found myself wondering how many times he didthattoo.

“Never mind,” I told him. “I’ll take it anyway.”

I tried getting up, but my legs laughed at me. I sighed wearily, extending one arm.

“You’re gonna have to help me up, though.”
