“Don’t worry about that now,” Bexley replies, dropping a kiss on my head. “I’m just so fucking relieved you’re safe. For a second, I thought I’d lost you.” A shiver rolls through him as he tightens his hold on me.

“I’m here, Bex. I’m not going anywhere, I promise.” My hand slides up his chest. “I love you.”

“I love you too, so fucking much.” Bexley leans down and brushes his lips over mine. “And I’m going to spend my life showing you.”

“Your life, huh? Sounds kind of permanent.”

“Damn right,” he chuckles, and it’s like music to my ears. “As soon as this is all over,” he lifts my hand and splays my fingers, “I’m going to put a ring on it.”

“As your prosapia?” I ask around a smile.

“No.” Something flashes in his eyes. “As my wife.”

“What about Q and all their rules?”

“Like you said, it’s time for a change. And I’m thinking it’s time for the Easton line to take back the power. But all kings need a queen.” He smirks, stealing another kiss. “So what do you say, Mia. Will you be my queen?”

“You’re such a goofball.”

“But I’m your goofball.” He nuzzles my neck, licking and kissing the sensitive skin there.

“Are we almost at the house?” I pant, my stomach coiled so tightly I feel like I might explode.

“Almost, why?”

“Because I need you, Bexley.” I gaze at him. “I really, reallyneed you.”

“Driver,” he yells.

“Yes, sir?”

Bexley winks at me and says, “Drive faster.”

Bexley

The sound of a gunshot jolts my entire body as I fly toward the door at the sanctuary and throw it open with my heart in my throat.

"Mia," I cry, taking in the blood already oozing from her chest. "Mia."

I drop to my knees beside her, dropping my head to hers. She manages to lift her arm and wrap her warm hand around the back of my neck, but it doesn't reassure me at all.

"I can't lose you," I sob. "I can't. Mia, please."

Her hand tightens around my neck, the grip too tight for someone who's fighting for her life. "Bexley. Bexley, it's okay. Wake up. I'm right here."

Confusion fogs my brain as her soft voice fills my ears.

Ripping my eyes open, I find the most beautiful sight. Mia's mesmerizing hazel eyes.

"Hey," she says softly, a wide smile spreading across her lips. "You were having a nightmare." I stare at her as the image that seemed so vivid in my mind only a few seconds ago begins to disappear.

My chest heaves as I stare up at her, memories from yesterday flickering through my mind.

"It's over, Bex. It's over."

It takes a couple of seconds for her words to sink in, but when they do, I expel a huge sigh of relief.
