"Fuck him. Unless something changes, I'm done."

"Somethingisgoing to change," I say with a confidence I probably shouldn't have. But with Cade gone, it's time to make the changes that need to happen.

Tim nods, and Brandon, Alex and I move toward him.

"Let's do this then."

"They'd better have some good news," Alex mutters.

"Yeah, like they've got Cade strung up by his balls somewhere never to be found." I notice Tim tense at my words. I understand—my balls want to shrivel up into my body at the thought alone.

The journey toward the church is silent as security sits beside our driver and another car trails behind us. I wish they'd just remain at the house. Something tells me that we're not Cade's target, and even if we are, I'm confident the four of us could overpower the twisted cunt.

"How's Fawn?" I ask Tim, needing to break the tension pressing down on all of us.

"All of this has scared her. She was never Cade's biggest fan anyway."

"Was anyone?"

Tim pales. I get it—they were good friends, have been for years, and although I don't know Tim all that well, something tells me that he doesn't want the same as Cade. He was just following orders like a good little Electi.

"I know what you're thinking," he says to me.

"Do you?" I quirk a brow at him.

"Things aren't as simple as they look. Cade and his plans weren't ever my biggest concern."

I nod at him, accepting his words for now but knowing that if we're going to move past this and become a team of sorts, like we're meant to be, then we're going to need to sit down and talk properly. I'm bored of the secrets and the riddles. If we're going to move forward as Electi, we're going to somehow need to start over. I refuse to keep Cade's legacy alive. His reign of terror is over. Fractured beyond belief.

A ripple of anticipation races through us all as the car pulls to a stop. No one makes a move to get out straight away, telling me that everyone is dreading what's going to happen in there as much as I am.

"Come on, we can't sit out here all day," I eventually say and move to the door.

The early fall sun warms my skin as I step out, but it does little to raise my spirits as I make my way toward the main doors.

I look around at my surroundings as I move. Part of me is desperate to catch a sight of him so I can tell Mia that she's not going crazy, but there's no sign of anyone as the sound of the guys’ footsteps crunch in the gravel behind me.

I knock when we get down to the meeting room, and as soon as Phillip calls out for us to enter, I push the heavy wooden door open and step inside. Sitting on the other side of the conference table are the Quinctus elders, including Marcus, but there’s another man I've never met before.

"Take your seats," Phillip instructs, barely bothering to look up at us as we enter.

Tension pulls at every one of their faces, and I can only assume that they're as apprehensive about what’s going to happen next as we are.

"Rexford?" Harrison barks, making Alex tense beside me, but I know it's not him he's directing the question at.

"At the house with Mia."

"We requested all of you."

"Channing is done. And we thought it best if he stays with the girls."

"That's what we pay security for."

"It gives us all extra peace of mind."

He mutters something under his breath but doesn't say anything else on the matter.

"I would like to introduce you to Lincoln Kingsley."
