“They can try,” he says in a voice that makes even me shiver and it gives me a pinch of hope and I hold onto it with my whole heart. “Honeychild, you’re all I’ve got. I live and die with your breaths alone.”

Our emotions are in turmoil and we breathe, looking at each other and the connection’s stronger than steel forged in fire. I’ll never come across another man like him and if we never meet again, I’ll remember him for the rest of my life. Stay loyal, only to him.

I whimper when the door behind Giggs starts shuddering. He’s blocking it but it won’t be long before the guards come inside. My eyes flare when the door that’s behind me bursts open, guards quick on the feet reach me before I get a chance to blink and they tear me from Giggs.

“Noooo...,” I plead, reaching for him with my hand while my heart powders in my chest. “Please...”

“Porsha,” Giggs snarls, furiously reaching for me but as he does, guards run in from behind him, grabbing him and he thrashes. “Let the fuck go of me!” He struggles, almost manages to get free but they cuff him, pulling him away. “Porsha...!” he says, almost in panic as tears stream down my face and they drag him out.

Calling for him, I helplessly watch while he fights them and then he throws himself at the glass that allows you to look inside the room.

“Porsha!” he bellows, pressing against the glass, his face plastered against it and he’s watching me with ferocious eyes as if he’d rather die than lose sight of me and I whimper. “Honeychild...!” he roars and I press my hands against my ears to not hear the echoes and thunders of his agony as they pull him farther away.

Looking down, I bite my lip to stop more tears from coming and I brush my wet cheeks. I snivel a couple of times and when I turn to the guards, they’re watching me with cold expressions.

“The director wants to speak to you.”

I’m so furious with them that I only clench my fists and give them massive side-eyes but I follow, my legs walking on their own. Entering the office, I brace myself as Mr. Kowalski sternly tells me to sit down. Grateful to give my knees a break from trembling, I sit before carefully looking up at him.

Putting his hands on his hips, he says, “I demand you tell me what’s going on right now. Never in my 24 years as a director at this prison have I seen anything like it.” He points at me. “And you little lady is the one responsible!” He shakes his head. “My poor mind boggles...go on then, spit it out.”

“You’re aware why Giggs...prisoner 05 is in here?” I ask and my voice shivers as Mr. Kowalski nods. With a whisper, I add, “I’m the little girl he saved.”

It happened in early spring. I was on my way to high school. Every day I took the same path, the one where I had to cross a construction site. Giggs was one of the workers. I remember noticing him a couple of times and whenever he’d catch me watching, he would give a quick nod and I felt that we had a special connection even if it was only at a distance. And even before I knew what he was like, he struck me as heroic.

That day began like any other. I was passing the site when I suddenly got pulled into a nearby alley by one of Giggs’s colleagues. His hands were tugging at my jacket, trying to get to the buttons of my shirt when Giggs burst into that backstreet like a savior. He beat up the offender without hesitating, without holding back.

And he beat him into a coma.

Giggs always says that if the cops hadn’t shown up, he would’ve killed him.

I shiver, looking at the director who stares at me.

“Why wasn’t I notified about this? If this was the case then it was highly unethical to allow you to have your internship here.”

“You’re right...I’m sorry, Mr. Kowalski.”

The director takes a deep breath and the redness in his face fades. “Not to worry. This isn’t your fault. My professional opinion is that 05 is the only one responsible.” He smiles. “At least now you can breathe out, knowing that 05 will never be able to reach you from the prison he’s going to.”

He winks at me. “And I meannever.”

But...he doesn’t know Giggs. He’ll find a way, he promised he would and I’m confident he will. It may take years, maybe even decades but Giggs...he will have me.

4.

Giggs

The truck’s crammed. There are around five of us and I’m staring straight ahead as the wheels roll. I can’t escape while I’m on prison grounds so the only possible way to do it is while we’re out on the roads. Hell...I’ve gotten myself into some real chaos but I’m gonna get myself out. Porsha and I will be together, no matter the cost and I clench my fists, telling myself to have patience.

But it’s hard when the feeling of her lips still lingers on mine. Licking my mouth, I remember the sultry taste of her, the way the curves of her body melted into my edges and made them bearable. I’ve never felt anything so soft and warm, so pleasing like she’d been created with me in mind. Growing up I was told by my peers that there wasn’t just one woman who could satisfy a man alone.

Now their comments make me laugh because they couldn’t have been more wrong. She more than satisfies and satiates. Porsha brings me to an end. Giggs Buchanan is an ongoing mess of a process but with her, I come full circle. Only with Porsha am I complete and the man I was created to be. A protector, a provider.

I used to work in construction and I thought that building with my hands was what I was supposed to do the rest of my life. It’s not. My hands are meant for Porsha, to raise her to heights so high, she’ll never want to come down. With me she won’t have to.

As long as I manage to escape that is...

Shifting in my seat, I inwardly curse when I catch the attention of one of the guards.
