“Lead me to the bed. I’m beat. But we have business to take care of first. I can’t be away from home for twenty-four hours and not have my way with my wife.”

“Go get ready for bed and I’ll be right in,” she said, pushing him toward their bedroom.

She’d heard hooves on wood and opened the door again to see what it was, and the sheep were back up on the porch, looking at her.

“Baa,” a ewe said, wanting to come inside.

“Get home,” Emily hissed, looking both ways.

The roar of another truck coming up the driveway meant that Faith was coming to fetch her father’s sheep. Quickly shutting the door, Emily grinned, not wanting to rub her good fortune in another woman’s face.

“Are you coming?” Paul called from the back of the cabin. “I don’t want to wait another second.”

“On my way! Get ready for me.”

Smiling, she was about to partake of the ritual they’d started soon after they got married: morning delight in the cabin at Firehouse Ranch.
