“Look,” Maggie said, handing over the binoculars.

“Oh my god, he took his shirt off.”

“Yes, Justin thought you should see his abs,” Maggie said, laughing.

“They’re two of his four kids. They are so cute. They’re older than I thought.”

She watched the activity on the boat between Alphé and his kids and two fishing rods.

“Yes, he wouldn’t be leaving four little kids behind. Gus said he was devoted.”

“Are you already thinking that way about us?” Katrina asked, keeping her eyes trained on the boat.

“Why, yes, I am. A guy like Alphé Beaumont stops by my dock to visit one of my best friends and asks her for a date, I think there’s romance in the air.”

She gave Katrina a little push so she could sit down on the blanket. “Does he look as good to you as he did yesterday?”

“He’s so handsome, Maggie. I’m nervous that I don’t live up.”

“Stop! You’re gorgeous, Katrina. Why’d you cover up?”

“It was too obvious, sitting here with my bikini on, waiting for the man. He made eye contact the whole time. He told me he lit a candle for us this morning.”

“Wow!”

“That’s exactly what I said.”

They watched the fishing boat and, after a while, heard the sound of an anchor chain clanging and then the engine starting and the chug of it echoing across the cove as they headed toward home.

“Do you believe in love at first sight?” Katrina asked.

“I do. Look at Justin and me. I guess it doesn’t count though because we knew each other since we were kids.”

“I think I’m going to fall in love with Alphé.”

“You’re planning on it?”

“I’m going to open myself up to it. I’m thinking positively.”

“I wasn’t going to bring this up…”

“That he’s still married?”

“Well, that too. No, I mean the blue-collar, white-collar thing.”

“I sell medical supplies, Maggie. It’s not like I’m a doctor.”

“You have an MBA. He’s a fisherman. I don’t even know if he finished high school.”

“I’ll have to get to know him to determine if that’s important. Someone who looked at me the way he looked at me yesterday and this morning, well, I’ve never had that before.”

Maggie grunted, standing up. “Honey, I’m all for it. Come back to the cottage and fix my lunch, please.”

“What do you want?” she asked, laughing.

“You can heat up the fried chicken I bought from the deli.”

Maggie helped her gather up her dock items.
