“I might as well leave, too,” Angela said. “If my buddies are leaving.”

“Only the boys are left,” Calista said. “I’ll be the only girl.”

“Mommy, I’ll stay with you,” Davina said.

“I guess it’s too cold to swim,” Austin said.

“The pool’s heated! Let’s swim!”

Her phone beeped; it was Katrina. “They’re twenty minutes away. I’d better get them out and dressed and ready to go.”

She waved the kids over, and anyone who wanted to go back to Cypress Cove needed to get out of the pool and get dressed. Angela, Pris and Rumor were leaving. Davina reluctantly would stay with her mother.

“I’ll go back to the RV with them,” Calista said. “Do you mind staying with my crew?”

“Nope, we’re good,” he said, saluting her.

On the way back to the RV, Rumor made the statement that would change everything.

“My real dad is dead.”

“Daddy’s not dead,” Angela said. “He’s coming to get us, isn’t he, Aunt Calista?”

“That’s right.”

“That man, Austin, said our real dad is dead,” Pris said, a little lilt to her voice.

“When did he say it?” Calista asked, chills dancing over her body.

“Last night. He said our real dad died in a fishing accident.”

Calista glanced over at Angela.

“He didn’t tell me that,” Angela said.

She opened the door to the RV. “You kids get dressed. I’ll be right back.”

She ran back to the pool. “Austin!”

He looked up at her, and she waved him over. When he got to her, he knew something was up.

“Did you tell Alphé’s kids last night that theirrealfather was dead? Tell me you didn’t say that.”

“Yes, I told them,” he said, defiant. “I didn’t know no one had leveled with the kids. When the little boy whined, I just said that Porter and Davina’s dad was their dad.”

Stunned, Calista rubbed her forehead in alarm.

“Austin, that wasn’t your place. Now what am I supposed to tell Alphé?”

“Tell him the truth. They have a right to know.”

She turned from him and ran back to the RV. Before she went inside though, she called Alphé’s number.

“Before you come into the park, we have a dilemma. Austin told Rumor and Pris that Rodney was their father.”

“What?”
