“There he is, putting me to shame, because I teased him last time we were out here.”

“I don’t care; it was worth it just to see this.”

The gate opened and before they could get through, Justin took off in a gallop to the barn. He slid off the horse just as they reached the cottage.

“Show off,” Dave yelled.

Dave and Katrina got the baby and his many required things out of the truck as Justin came over to greet them after putting Smokey in the paddock.

“What’s up?” Dave asked.

“Dad called. For some reason, he’s suddenly considering moving.”

So, Justin had heard. Dave nodded. “What’s your opinion?”

“I’m freaked out. Maggie said no biggie, she’ll use Russ’s money to buy it.”

“No way.”

“I doubt I could talk her out of it; she’s so pissed off at her mother. Dad admitted Rose wants to move back to Florida and he loves her now so of course, he’d go.”

“And leave his grandkids? I’m pissed, too.”

Katrina reached out to stroke his arm. “It’ll be okay. He just started talking about it, correct?”

“It’s the first I heard of it,” Justin said. “Come with me, Dave. You have to see this grill.”

Maggie greeted Katrina at the door. “Did you hear? I’m ready to kill my mother. She must be having some kind of breakdown.”

“Why does she want to leave here? That’s what I don’t understand,” Katrina asked.

“I’m going to call my aunt. Maybe she can shed some light on the developments,” Maggie answered. “Where are the men?”

“They’re looking at the grill.”

“Oh my God, that grill! That grill is going to be the bane of my existence. I want to eat healthier, and now we’ll be eating steak and burgers every night.”

“He’ll get sick of it in a while. And at least he’s cooking.”

“This is true. If you don’t mind, can we sit out on the dock? I need to be near the water.”

“I’d love it. We don’t have to worry about alligators getting us now that we delivered, do we?”

“Shut up,” Maggie teased.

Rose had told them an old wives’ tale about why pregnant women shouldn’t sit on the dock. With both babies in strollers, they grabbed folding beach chairs and walked down the dock together.

“I got a call from Annie a few minutes before you arrived.”

“She must have told you about my encounter with Amber.”

“She did, Kat. I hope that’s the end of it for you. I warned you that she was nuts.”

“Yes, you surely did. But you know what? It’s worth having had to deal with her just to be with Dave.”

“Aw, that’s so nice. Hopefully, that was the last time.”

“I invited Annie and Steve today.”
