“Sssomeone called me Jjjack.”

“Do you remember who it was?”

My eyes wandered aimlessly around the room as I struggled not to fall back asleep and remember what happened all at the same time.

Lumberjack…

Lumberjack…

Fuck, that sounds familiar. Where did it come from?

Jack…

Nighty night, Jack.

I gasped. “Becky! It wasss Bbbecky. That bbbitch.”

“I’ll fucking kill her. Was Harper with her?”

I heard the door open followed by a squeaky noise as it moved through my apartment. I shook my head in response, but fuzzy images started to pile in.

A man with a goatee and filthy blonde hair. It was greasy and gross, but that was all I could really see.

A girl in a yellow sweater, biting her thumbnail nervously as she straddled my hips. Blonde hair.

A girl holding me down, laughing.Becky.

A girl holding my other arm. Not as pretty.Melinda.

I sighed. “Melinda was. I remember a third girl, but I can’t see her face just yet,” I mumbled. My words didn’t slur again, but they were still slow like before.

“It had to be Harper. There’s no way those two went after you, and Harper wasn’t involved. We need to get you to the headmistress right fucking now. This needs to be reported. Those bitches will be expelled. They’ll be lucky if they don’t see jail time for this. You were prescribed Xanax. If you’d taken one, this could have fucking killed you. This is attempted murder.”

Hearing him go off like that sent a warning bell off in my head so loud a shot of adrenaline raced through me, jolting me awake like a serious situation ruining a drunken buzz or high.

“No. We can’t report it,” I blurted out, my speech suddenly cured.

Luna was standing there now, prepping the wheelchair for me. “Uh, are you fucking nuts? You were drugged, held down, and tattooed. Inyourfucking apartment. Thishasto be reported.”

No, no, no!I panicked. If I reported them, Harper would go down. That meant Rick would be here. A police report would more than likely be filed. This would bebad, bad.

“No! I don’t have a choice,” I argued.Fuck,I felt dizzy as fuck, but at least I could keep my eyes open. “I’m serious. Thiscan’thappen.”

Justin stepped forward, grabbing either side of my face and staring into my eyes with anger. “Temperance Anne Grace. Youwillreport this. This happened in your own apartment. This was the last safe space you had. They came in and roofied all your fucking drinks, and make no mistake, it wasallof them. I ripped every one of them out myself while Luna made sure you were breathing okay. You once told us your life was in danger. Was it them?”

I shook my head. “No, but—”

“But nothing. If it’s not them, then you have nothing to fear. Report their asses, or I will.”

“You don’t get to choose this,” I said, tears filling my eyes. “Ican’t.”

“What the fuck are you so afraid of, then?” he asked.

“Justin, go easy on her. She’s been through a lot.”

He sighed and looked down, his entire body tense as he continued to hold my face. When he looked up, I saw tears in his eyes as well. “Temperance.Please. I can’t stand by doing nothing while you have so many enemies all around. Report this or tell me why you can’t, and I’ll help you in whatever way I can. Please. I’m begging you.”

His worry and obvious feelings for me shattered my heart. I took a deep breath and prepared to do something I never imagined myself doing.
