“Long enough. I heard your voice,” he said, looking at Damian. “I heard you tell someone to pull open your shirt. Then I saw who it was.”

“You’ve been therethatlong?” I asked, my eyes wide.

He shrugged. “After yesterday, I figured the least I could do was let you finish.”

My mouth opened and then closed again. I had absolutely no idea how to respond to that.

“We should get to class,” he said. “I’ll tell them you had trouble with your locker.”

“Yes, Wilder. You should go with Asher,” Damian said, a knowing smile on his face. I scowled at him and started to walk off, but he grabbed my arm, stopping me in my tracks. He leaned down to speak low in my ear. “You should know he wants you, too. Though, I’m sure you figured that out last night, didn’t you?”

I looked over at him. “Donottell me this was to get back at Asher.”

He shrugged. “I claimed it. It’s mine.”

“Itis a human, anditis me, you egomaniacal thunder cunt.” I wasseething.

“Oh!” Damian said with a smile before walking over to the wall he’d had me pinned against. He picked up my backpack and handed it to me. “Don’t forget this.”

“You’re a real dick, you know that?” Asher said to Damian.

“I warned you to stay away from her. What’s mine is mine. You know that. You tried to sneak behind my back, but I found out. Ialwaysfind out. I have eyes and ears all over this place. Don’t fuck with me again. You know what will happen.” The warning in Damian’s voice chilled me to the bone.

I looked between both of them and saw rage in their expressions.

“Fuck this,” I said before snatching my backpack from Damian and putting it on my shoulders. “The two of you just need to fuck each other and get it over with.”

“He wishes,” Damian said, laughing.

“Come on, Tempe,” Asher said, his hand lightly touching my back as he glared daggers at Damian. “Let’s go.”

I jerked away. “Don’t call me that. My friends back home and dead family called me that. You… are neither. Also, don’t touch me. I’ve had my fill of assholes using me as their pawn for one day.” I turned back to Damian. “Thanks for nothing, Wolfe.”

He gave me a sarcastic wave before shoving his hands in his pockets and heading off in the opposite direction Asher and I needed to go.

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

DAMIAN

While I hadn’t planned for Asher to show up while I had my fingers in the cookie jar, I also couldn’t say I minded. I couldn’t have planned that better myself—and I was an excellent schemer. Sometimes, things just worked out, and I couldn’t argue with the results.

I didn’t know exactly what happened between them to make him so docile, but she’d managed to put him in his place better than Ieverhad. He was positivelysubmissive! He rolled over and showed his belly the moment he showed up. Hell, he couldn’t even look her in the eye. It was impressive, truly impressive.

Now Ineededto know what happened.

When I saw Asher making a beeline straight for the new girl yesterday in the cafeteria, I texted Chad to follow him and find out what was going on. I gave the little bastard a hard time because he was so insufferably lame, but he was quite useful at times. He was able to sneak to the edge of the cafeteria, hide, and listen to their conversation without them paying any attention.

Chad said Asher was too pissed to notice when he walked back in, and Temperance was far too concerned with Asher to bother looking around. It was pretty perfect.

He learned they were supposed to meet at the gym later that evening, so I sent him along with a camera to spy on them and take pictures of anything interesting I could use. I wasn’t expecting him to be quite literally the world’sworstfucking photographer—especially with that being his major hobby—but at least what he got was moderately useful. Grainy as all hell, but good enough I could have him anonymously post it on Crestchat.

Seriously, how the fuck did someone own a five-thousand-dollar camera and take college level photography classes and still not know how to work a fucking zoom, lighting, or angles?

Then again… it’sChad.

Fucking Chad.

Unfortunately for me, while Chad was taking photos of their make out session, something happened, and they stopped. Chad said he took the photos through the front doors, which made sense, given how horrid they were, so he couldn’t hear anything. However, it looked like they were arguing. He said he had to bolt to avoid them catching him when Temperance grabbed her things and headed toward the front of the building.
