Luna laughed. “Dick.” She sat up and yawned, her arms stretching high overhead. “I donotwant to go to class today. We should all skip.”

“That’s something I could get behind,” I said, shifting onto my back.

Justin stood, his grey sweats showing off exactly what had jabbed me in the back a few minutes before. I absentmindedly licked my lips.Down, girl!

“Speak for yourself. My father will have my ass in a meat grinder if I don’t show. Heaven forbid one of the little trust fund babies run and tell their daddy Arthur Blackwell’s son skipped.” He rolled his eyes and shook his head. “Fucking annoying.”

“I always knew being rich would be awful.”Says the girl set to inherit over a million dollars. My stomach rolled a little. Most people would be excited. To me, that money didn’t spell “fun” or “financial freedom.”

It spelled out in big, bold, horrifying letters:YOUR PARENTS’ LIVES WERE WORTH $1,000,000.00.

“You’re not exactly wrong,” Luna said. “Ugh. I guess if Justin has to suffer through, I’ll do it, too.”

“Hooray for solidarity,” Justin said.

“Pfft. Screw you guys. I’m on my own today. I’d just like to know how I only gotoneclass with you. One!” Justin started to respond, but I sat straight up and cut him off. “Heeey… so… you’re a big hotshot around here. Do you think you could get me a copy of the demon’s schedule? Asher’s, too, if you’re feeling particularly magnanimous.”

“You trying to figure out which hallways to sneak away in or how to dodge them?” he asked.

I looked at him incredulously. “My mind and body are not speaking to each other right now. I don’twantto be stuck in any secret hallway hidey hole with Damian. Once I’mthere, however…” I shrugged.

He laughed. “I will be your grey knight in shining armor and get you both schedules. You’re welcome.”

I smiled. “Thank you, and I don’t think you’re morally grey enough to be a grey knight. You give full white knight energy.”

Luna snorted. “That’s because you don’t know him that well.”

She slid off the end of my bed and threw on her shoes. Justin grabbed his backpack and threw it over his shoulder just as my alarm went off. I reached back and shut it off before climbing out of bed, too.

“Thanks for staying last night, guys. It really helped a lot.”

Each of them gave me a hug before saying their goodbyes and heading out the door. Even after several minutes, I still felt Justin’s arm wrapped around me and him pressing against my ass. I needed a cold shower. I just prayed nothing else happened. I didnotwant to deal with either of the guys. I needed a few drama free days.

Fat fucking chance.

When I returnedto my apartment that evening, I received a call from Detective Abbott letting me know she’d acquired a warrant for my phone records and text messages. She was also going to have my phone as well as my mother’s phone searched.

It was strange to think someone may have copied my phone. I worried about what that would mean. My mind wasn’t my best friend right then, and my paranoia wanted to run wild.

How long had they been watching me?

Was it someone I knew?

If not, was it someone I’d had a conversation with?

Had they broken into the house while we slept and did it?

There were far too many possibilities, and it was terrifying.

With that looming over my head, what happened in the locker room, and my talk with Harper, I spent the rest of the week on high alert. My anxiety was peaked, and I couldn’t wait for my psychologist appointment.Only one more day.

I couldn’t wait to tell him all the ways in which my life was completely fucked—while at the same time lying about who I was, where I was from, and exactly what caused the anxiety in the first place.

Yeah, I had to guess my excitement for therapy would be fully wasted since they couldn’t help what they didn’t know. And even with HIPAA laws, I couldn’t risk telling anyone. People made anonymous calls all the time. It would only take a single person—him or even a nosy receptionist—to leak that I was Rick’s daughter, and then all hell could break loose.

Fuck.
