Dollface,

I wanted you to get as much rest as possible before the long drive, so I didn't wake you. I had to get back to L.A. asap. Drive safely, and I'll see you tonight.

My address is- 321 Ocean Bluff Ct. #4 in Venice

Your Romeo

I'll tell her about Bailey when I know what's going on. I place my hotel key on the counter before grabbing my things and taking off.

Chapter Twenty-One

Andrea

"Miss? Miss?" I'm awoken by a stout woman shaking my arm.

"Who are you?" I pull the sheets up to make sure I'm fully covered. I quickly scan the room; Daniel is nowhere to be seen.

"Housekeeping, ma'am. Checkout was an hour ago."

"Where's my friend, the one who checked us in?" I ask.

"How should I know? I've cleaned the suite. You're the only one here."

"Okay. Let me get dressed, and I'll be out of here in fifteen minutes."

As soon as the door clicks, I jump from the bed to find my phone. No calls or texts from Daniel. Where the hell did he go? I run to the window to see if his truck is still parked beside the R.V., but it's gone, too. My stomach sinks. I don’t want to feel this way, but the proof is in the pudding. His early morning disappearance after a night of love-making can only mean one thing.

Still, I call him, hopeful that there’s been some sort of emergency, that all of this is a misunderstanding, and his disappearing act has nothing to do with me. The call goes straight to voicemail.

What the fuck is going on here? I send a text and watch for a few minutes as it stays ondelivered.

I set the phone down, fighting back tears.

He left me.

With a deep breath, I toss the rest of my belongings in my bag and leave the hotel room. Embarrassed that I’m nearly forty years old and about to do the Walk of Shame, I exit out the back door as quickly as my feet will carry me.

Once back inside the R.V., I make myself a cup of coffee and try to figure out what is happening. My brain is cruel, telling me I’ve finally had my one-night stand, but my heart doesn’t want to believe that he’d just leave me like this. Not without good reason. But where did Daniel go? I try his number twice more, but each call goes straight to voicemail. Out of options, I call Lindsay in hopes Jacob may have heard from Daniel.

“Hey, girl,” she says after just two rings.

“Hey, have you guys heard from Daniel?”

Lindsay’s words are muffled as she relays my question to Jacob. "No, we haven't heard from him since he left yesterday. Did something happen?" she asks.

"We stayed together last night, and he was gone when I woke up. No call, no text, nothing. Maybe it was too much for him. He told me he didn't want to get involved with anyone. Then I practically forced him to have sex with me, and now he's gone—” "Okay, okay, settle down there, drama queen. I'm sure there's a logical explanation."

"Drama queen? You tell me another explanation for a guy disappearing the morning after sex other than he realized it was a mistake." My eyes burn with tears and shame sends heat creeping up my neck. "I'm gonna go. Call me if you hear anything." I end the call before she can say anything else. Alone, I let my tears flow freely.

I knew the risk of my heart getting broken, but I acted on impulses anyway. I trusted myself—and him. I pull the revival list and a pen out of my purse, staring at the folded piece of paper for a long time.

Am I being too impulsive? Or do I take last night for what it was?

No. Before I can change my mind, I cross off item number five.
