I detect a hint of bitterness in Julian’s voice.

“They didn’t spare a second thought before abandoning her,” Julian continues in the same bitter tone. “Iris could’ve died today.”

“What?” I’ve been plagued the entire day by the events of last night.

I treated Iris coldly without giving her an opportunity to understand the situation.

It was clear from the shock in her eyes that Iris knew nothing about the deal between me and her parents. She was an innocent girl who became the victim of my rage.

“Garcia and his men attacked her this morning,” Julian tells me. “They wouldn’t even listen to me when I told them to let her go. If Raiden wasn’t around, they’d have disobeyed me and continued to cut her.”

“Cut her?” I hiss. “Who the hell allowed them to touch her?”

“Raiden said it isn’t safe to send her back to the trainee dorm.” He fidgets with the end of the sheet, looking upset and enraged. “She’s staying here. I’ll keep an eye on her and make sure she’s safe.”

I’m surprised by the protectiveness in his voice. Julian usually hates having any woman near us. He is extremely possessive of us, so it is surprising to see him wanting Iris in the house.

He suddenly bites my shoulder.

“Oww! Jules,” I growl.

“She’s staying here.” He stares at me with me a defiant, daring glare.

“Fine. Stop biting me over it.”

He suddenly grins. Wrapping his arms around me, he hugs me tighter. “Thank you!”

I chuckle. “What if she tries to get close to one of us?” I tease.

“I don’t mind,” he says, staring up at me with somber eyes. “Would you mind ifIgot close to her?”

“What?!” I stare at him flabbergasted. “You’ve never wanted to be shared by anyone other than us.”

“I know,” he says with confusion. “Iris is just...different. She reminds me of my childhood. I can’t help but worry about her. She’s so loyal and brave, Caleb. I never felt this way about anyone outside of our pack.”

My mind goes back to the first time I met Julian. He’d been a starved, fearful boy of eight. Dad brought him home after a mission and told us he’d be our brother.

Raiden, Damon, and I grew up like brothers with Julian until the day he turned sixteen. Our feelings for him changed as soon as he awakened. His scent drove us mad and for a while, we were competing against each other to win him.

Julian ended our rivalry after claiming he wanted us all. We’ve been together ever since.

When Julian had his first heat, we were all there for him. Raiden, Damon, and I knotted with him, giving him our bites, claiming him as our mate.

“I don’t understand how she could win your attention,” I say after a while. “She’s not even an omega.”

Anger flashes through those violet eyes. He suddenly pulls away from me, taking away his warmth.

“What does it matter?” he suddenly shouts. “I’d rather be with a beta like her than have a simpering, spoiled omega clash against me.”

“Hey, relax,” I say, pulling him against me. “I was just being...jealous.”

“Jealous of Iris?” He scoffs. “You wait until I’m done with her. You’ll be panting all over her too.”

“I won’t! How can you say that? I only want you.”

“We’ll see.” His eyes sparkle with mischief and determination.

He settles down on the pillow, so I lie down too. Wrapping his arm around my chest, he falls asleep.
