“I don’t think I’m going to be able to do that,” he stated casually, coolly, as if this was his typical behavior.

Who was this man and why was he here at the party? He had to be a criminal, or maybe he was hired security, but I doubted the senator would employ someone of his rough nature. Casper Donahue preached tranquility and peace, acting as if he’d never done an unscrupulous thing in his life. I knew better. The man was just as corrupt as the members of organized crime families he worked so hard to eliminate.

After gazing all the way down to my heels, he returned his attention toward Reggie, cocking his head then allowing his gaze to travel to my date’s lower torso. “Do I frighten you, Reg?”

Why was I just standing here allowing him to terrorize Reggie?

Because it’s exactly what you want to do to the creep.

I folded my arms, unable to stop shaking, but it had nothing to do with being terrified. Heat continued to slide into every tendon, my pulse racing.

He squeezed Reggie’s neck, the pressure enough the poor boy started coughing. I realized the sexy stranger had Reggie’s body lifted off the floor by two full inches. When he didn’t answer, the stranger slammed my date’s body against the wall for a third time.

“I asked you a question, Reg. I suggest you answer me.”

“I’m not afraid of anyone,” Reggie was stupid enough to say.

“Wrong answer.” The stranger twirled the knife again, the blade sharp enough that when he pulled it away, a trickle of blood oozed from the slight wound, sliding down the side of Reggie’s neck.

Reggie whined, the sound high pitched. “You’ll pay for this. My father is an important man.”

“Oh, yeah? That excites me even more.”

With a simple snap of his wrist, the stranger sliced through Reggie’s shirt, his massive hand still traveling down, now positioned at Reggie’s groin.

I grew increasingly warm all over, a single bead of perspiration taking its time to slide down from my temple. My reaction was both from rage at allowing myself to be caught behind closed doors with the asshole and by the ridiculous reaction my body was having given the stranger’s presence.

“Ty otvratitel’nyy kusok musora,” the stranger muttered, the sound more like a predator’s growl.

“What the fuck are you saying? Let me go!” Reggie’s demands were obviously met with deaf ears.

The stranger seemed to be enjoying himself, toying with the knife, sliding it back and forth across Reggie’s groin. While I couldn’t understand what he’d said, there was disgust in his voice as if he’d tossed out a reprehensible phrase. I had plenty of those in my mind.

Prick. Asshole. Bastard. I could go on and on. Men like Reggie were never taken to task for the atrocities they performed, and I had a feeling tonight wouldn’t be an exception.

However, I couldn’t just stand here and watch the man cut Reggie to pieces, even if a significant part of me wanted to be the one wielding the knife. “I don’t know who you are, but you need to let him go. He’s not worth it.”

“For the last time, Reg, you need to rethink your answer, maybe trying the truth this time.”

“Fine. Yes, you son of a bitch. I’m scared of you. Is that what you want?” Reggie was wild, tossing punches at the stranger, the hits hard but the man didn’t budge. It was as if he was made of steel.

The mystery man looked down, snarling under his breath. Then he grinned. I followed his gaze, slapping my hand over my mouth from seeing the wetness staining the front of Reggie’s pants. This was getting out of hand.

“Look, I don’t know who you are, and I do appreciate what you did, but it’s time to let him go. I think he’s learned his lesson.”

“You can call me your savior, printsessa. As far as whether he’s learned his lesson, only time will tell. Just know I’ll be watching. Waiting.” He dragged him away from the wall and toward the door leading to the balcony.

“Wait. What are you doing?” I raced toward him, tugging on the stranger’s arm.

He shot me another look, tsking until I let go. “You should allow me to do my work. This is no place for little girls.”

His work? Little girls? Whew. Now I was pissed. He remained hostile, relentless in what he has planned for Reggie. I was almost beginning to feel sorry for the man.

The stranger opened the door with the knife still in his fingers, jerking Reggie onto the balcony then tossing him halfway over the railing. While only three stories, the perverted asshole would land on hard concrete.

“Don’t. Please. Don’t. I will never, ever do something like that again,” Reggie pleaded. “I swear to God!”

“There is no God where you’re going,” the stranger snarled.
