“Blackened but keep his eyes. I want him to watch.”

“I like it when you get messy.”

His evil laughter was the last thing I heard before ending the call. As I jumped into my car, I shook my head. The littleprintsessawould be fun to play with.

And I would enjoy every minute of watching her forced surrender as I shattered her world.

I was in a piss poor mood, the entire day just turning to shit. Even my hunger for blood couldn’t compensate for the fucked-up life I’d just been forced into.

Duty, loyalty, and respect. My father had muttered those three words since long before I was born. They weren’t spoken only about his soldiers but also about what he expected of his family. The old ways. The ones he’d been brought up enduring in a brutal household.

I’d thought he’d tossed out some of the ancient traditions that had no place in a new country, but I could see I was wrong. He’d carried his values with him when forced to flee his great empire. They were the only thing he had from home since he and Mother had fled with the three children in tow, one not even blood, and the clothes on their backs.

At least my father had been smart enough to have funds secured in offshore accounts, the Russian thugs unable to get their hands on them.

I revved the engine, making the last turn down a busy street, every building used for warehouse space. I had to work off some steam prior to meeting the bride to be tonight. Neither of my two brothers had mentioned anything about the deal. While Viktor wouldn’t give a shit given his dislike of the American way, Alexei would have been happy to drive it in like a stake through my heart. Sneering, I pulled into a parking spot, cutting the engine then tapping my fingers on the steering wheel.

While the Bratva tried to keep making examples out of members of law enforcement to a minimum, it was often necessary to provide reminders from time to time. This was one of those moments. The DEA had taken it upon themselves to make us enemy number one, which had hindered our business practices. In the last few months, they’d managed to capture a yacht the moment the captain had entered US waters, easily finding the weapons stored in a secure and very secret holding bin. Then they’d derailed an eighteen-wheeler carefully disguised as a food service freighter bound for Pennsylvania. While they’d yet to make a direct connection, that had given them ammunition to continue their methods of persecution.

Meanwhile, we’d lost over thirty million dollars, pissing off several clients in the process. I didn’t take the loss lightly nor did I believe their investigative skills had improved over the years.

Someone was on the inside.

That someone had the potential of doing irrevocable damage. That couldn’t happen.

On top of it, there were rumors than the arms deal Kostya was handling could be threatened by an unknown source. Just another day in the life of the Bratva.

I swung out of my Pagani Zonda C12, slamming the sports car’s door, immediately slapping a clip of ammo into my weapon. While I returned it to my jacket pocket, I did a wide scan of the area. I’d selected the target based on the fact he lived alone, currently not on assignment. His disappearance wouldn’t be detected immediately, which allowed me the opportunity to deposit his body in the prime location.

Two of my men were waiting outside the door.

The sun was blaring in the sky, the day warmer than normal. I ripped off my sunglasses, itching to get this over with. I’d thought of little else in the last four hours but the arrangement that had been made. Whether or not it was good for business didn’t set well with me. The little princess I was destined to marry had been kept a secret from the rest of the world as she’d matured into a woman, both she and her sister protected from beasts like myself. She’d been sent to the finest schools in Europe while keeping my sister at home given her fragile state of mind had limited her educational abilities. It was one of many things that kept my need for revenge pegged in my mind.

And my lovely bride would pay for the sins of her father.

I had no clue what she looked like, although that didn’t matter at this point. Whether or not she was drop dead gorgeous couldn’t matter. Business was all that mattered. While she would become my lover, bearing my children, she’d learn soon enough she meant nothing to me, an object to be locked away in a cage and nothing more.

“He’s waiting for you, boss,” Sanchez stated. I noticed specks of blood staining his shirt, more covering his neck and fist. The DEA had been properly worked over as required.

“Any issues?”

“He pulled a weapon. Definitely not expecting us. The dude’s still in his pajama bottoms.”

“Any sign of his friends?”

“None. We were careful in our extraction.”

“Good. The shipment?”

He grinned. “Safely tucked away.”

“Make certain there are extra guards on the facility. If anything happens to that shipment, heads will roll.”

“You got it, boss.”

I moved past him, taking long strides into the warehouse that used to hold crates of weapons. We’d cultivated locations over the years, ensuring they were safe from prying eyes. I remained furious someone on the inside had fucked with our organization. It was my goal to find out who. If the fucker refused to tell me, I’d hunt another then another agent until I found out what I wanted. No one could hide from me. No one.
