“I hate you,” she managed. “That will never change.”

“That’s a good decision, Giada. But you will learn to respect me. I will not accept your defiance. We were almost killed back there, my lovely bride. The question is, were you the target? If you want to live, I suggest you learn to obey every command.”

“As I said. Over my dead body.”

I brushed my lips across hers, her scent embroiling my blood, fueling the longing for a second time that evening. Even after the carnage, my cock was rock hard, my balls tight.

She tried to shove me away, then wrapped her hand around my shirt, pulling me even closer, arching her back. “What a shame you weren’t a good lay, Sevastian. What a shame.”

Chuckling, I remained where I was, shaking my head slowly. “I’ll leave you alone for now, my sweet, beautiful bride, but soon you will be begging me to fulfill your every need. Only I’ll decide whether or not to provide you with a moment of satisfaction.” I kept my hand firmly wrapped around her throat as I snapped my head toward Antonio. The box he held was one of two. While I rarely used it, at this point I didn’t need any additional trouble from her.

“Open the box, Antonio.” I’d wanted to be able to hate her without reservation, without any feeling of guilt. She needed to suffer for the sins of her family, yet I found myself unable to draw the line between lust and hate. It was hairline thin, pushing my boundaries. Now that I’d tasted the forbidden fruit, there would be no possibility of spending even a day without her.

She’d not only become a liability. She’d become my light.

“Yes, sir.”

“What are you doing?” she asked. This time her tone highlighted her fear.

When I didn’t answer, she laughed.

“You’re a fucking son of a bitch.”

My soldier knew what to do. I kept a smile on my face as he prepared the injection. “What am I doing, printsessa? I’m making your trip much more enjoyable.” After Antonio handed me the syringe, I wasted no time injecting her. As the stunning light began to fade from her eyes, I took a deep breath.

She had no idea how right she was.

CHAPTER9

Sevastian

Darkness.

I often preferred the shadows crawling across whatever location I was in, nighttime allowing all creatures to sleep. That’s when I was usually most active, interpreting events of the day or information that had become vital to my industry.

By the time the plane touched down on my private airstrip, almost another full day had passed. The sun was already lighting up the sky, removing the dusky shades, replacing them with an almost cloudless sky. Unfortunately, my mood remained black, enraged. Sleep had yet to come and likely wouldn’t for some time. There was far too much to do, information to gather.

I peered over at the sleeping beauty, tugging the light blanket over her legs. The Italian princess was murmuring in her sleep, her eyes rolling back and forth as her lashes skimmed her porcelain skin. I could only imagine what she was dreaming about, perhaps planning her revenge for disrupting her life.

During the almost eighteen-hour flight, only some details had come to light. There’d been no claims made by other Mafioso families, no outward sign of any responsibility. That pissed me off even more.

Nothing occurred in New York without my knowledge. I’d prided myself in thwarting several attacks because of advance reconnaissance. My entire network had failed, which wouldn’t bode well for our reputation.

What had come to light was the DEA’s outrage for slaughtering one of their own. They’d already pointed fingers, tossing around accusations. While the fact they were unraveling would ordinarily amuse me, nothing would at this point.

I was out for blood.

There were dozens of soldiers stationed around the perimeter of the estate where they’d remain until further notice. If the party responsible wanted a fight, I was prepared to give them one. While my father wanted no wars started on US soil, all bets were off on other parts of the world.

The island I’d purchased and renovated in the Maldives was a perfect location to handle business from several countries. It was also stocked with thousands of weapons and boxes of ammunition and explosives, fortified by the tightest security in the world.

Yet I remained on edge.

I’d been blinded, foolish enough to think I was allowed to enjoy what some would consider a night off. I’d been looking forward to sparring with the lovelyprintsessa, learning what made the luscious creature tick. That had become mission number one, which had allowed the attack to occur.

I should know that a man in my position could never allow his guard to fall.

As the driver pulled in through the main gates leading to the estate, I took a deep breath. How I handled the situation from here would potentially shape several business decisions in the future.
