He moved off the bed; the rustle of clothes meant he was dressing. When he turned me over again, he looked directly into my eyes.

My God. The expression on his face was no longer that of an angry man, but one who’d crossed a line he’d created for himself. Was it possible our connection was strong enough to toss aside the hate instilled by our families?

Sevastian took several deep breaths, never blinking. “As I said, you are required to obey me; however, you will be allowed certain freedoms.”

There was such hesitation in his words but the way he looked at me allowed my arousal to continue. “I’m not your enemy, Sevastian.”

I couldn’t have been more shocked when he slowly lowered his hand, brushing his fingers across my cheek. His touch was powerful, the draw to him irresistible. All the hate I’d felt before was no longer clearly defined and it scared me to death. When he fisted his hand, pulling it away, I sensed he was fighting his own personal demons. We weren’t supposed to be attracted to each other, but the electricity we shared wasn’t to be denied.

“There are things you don’t understand, printsessa.”

“Then explain them to me. Please.”

Before he had a chance to answer, a sharp knock on the door jerked him out of the moment. “What?”

“Boss, the doctor has arrived.”

“Fine, Antonio. Have him wait until I come downstairs,” Sevastian directed.

“Yes, sir.”

“Doctor? Why?” I asked. I had to know. If he thought I’d let anyone touch me, he was dead wrong.

His jaw remained clenched as he stared at me, his eyes penetrating to the point goosebumps popped along every inch of skin.

“You were unconscious for far too long. I’m making certain you don’t have any internal bleeding or other injuries from the fire.” His words were laced with concern.

“That sounds vaguely like you actually care about me.” When he hesitated, I knew I was right. The trouble was I felt the same way. That just wasn’t possible.

“What I care about is keeping my end of a contract signed in blood. I suggest you remember that as well. Anything less and our two families will be at war.”

When I didn’t bother responding, he laughed, the sound just as bitter as his words. “Make no mistake, you will please me in every way, Giada. I won’t stand for anything else.” He started to walk away then stopped short, slowly looking over his shoulder. “You’ll find some appropriate attire for you in the closet; however, you will remain in this room until I come for you. There is no other choice for you. None. I suggest you get used to your surroundings.”

For some reason, I hadn’t been prepared for his shift in emotions or the way his touch made me feel. However, I had to face reality.

There was nothing but bad blood between our families. It wouldn’t matter that we were married or how many children we shared together. I feared it would never be enough and one day, he would go after my family, fulfilling his promise.

And the only thing I could do about it was to make him fall in love.

If I did, was there a chance I could protect my heart?

CHAPTER11

Sevastian

Goddamn it.

The gall of the woman was… enticing. She’d pushed me to an edge that I’d jumped off, taking her like some goddamn animal when she deserved more.

The taste of her had been incredible, the feel of burying my cock deep inside so much sweeter than before. I’d ignored my own rules, succumbing to her seduction like she’d done at the restaurant.

I’d become lost to her doe eyes, the way she’d touched my cock. Hissing, I raced down the stairs, disgusted with my behavior. I hadn’t allowed the doctor to ensure she was healthy, uninjured from the crap we’d dealt with.

What did that make me?

I’d feasted until I should be sated, my mind allowed to break free of the reins strapped around my neck, but there wasn’t enough time and space to allow me to get enough of her. She was a perfect angel trapped in a vixen’s body, her siren calling to me from a distance. Fucking her in the ass had breached every wall around my heart, creating a tidal wave of need that would one day eclipse everything else that should matter to me.

I stormed into my office, slamming the door then immediately making a drink. Perhaps a tall whiskey would soothe my nasty mood. As I poured a glass, I tried to shove her out of my system, but the visions continued to roll through my mind.
