“Where is this place? A beautiful but dangerous location in the middle of nowhere.”

“I’ve already told you that it’s not something you need to know.”

“Why? Why can’t you tell me any truths, Sevastian? At least my father would provide some details whether you believe that or not. He also taught me to fend for myself. Snakes and spiders don’t bother me.”

“How about hired assassins?”

That gave her pause. “As you said, a part of our world.”

“You are fooling yourself, princess. That’s easy to tell.” I’d listened to my father my entire life, his advice to stay away from the darkness of sex that seemed to consume our entire family. That’s all this was. She didn’t mean anything to me.

Now who’s the one lying?

Everything about her called to me, that very darkness my father was talking about crashing through the surface. I was awash with her aroma, a scent that would never leave me alone. I wanted to fuck her, use her. I needed the rush of power that fucking her had given me before. And I needed that damn peace she was talking about.

Peace of mind.

Peace of heart.

Peace.

If she needed truths, there were two ways to provide them.

Sex and violence.

I would fuck her like the animal she’d turned me into, but first, I’d give her that very dose of reality.

Handling enemies was a part of my world as well as hers, even though she’d yet to accept it. However, that was a necessity if she wanted to survive. I grabbed her wrists, pulling her toward the trees.

“I don’t want to go back to the house. Please.”

“I’m not taking you to the house, my sweetprintsessa. If you want truths, that’s exactly what you’re going to get. Come with me.”

I was finished with playing nice, the adrenaline rush keeping me on edge. She tugged and pulled in her effort to get away from me, but that wasn’t going to happen. She’d tried my patience for the last time. Her refusal to accept wasn’t nearly as ridiculous as the fact she acted as if this lifestyle hadn’t been brought on her by birth. No matter her insistence her father had shared a damn thing with her, I knew better. The women of this lifestyle were usually kept in the dark, including my own sister.

Tatiana had been protected, kept in a cage of her own, which had made the incident eight years before that much more tragic. I often wondered if she’d ever be able to find true happiness. All because of one man’s greed.

The thought of losing Giada had ripped at a part of me I didn’t know existed, but she had to learn in order to be safe.

Even from the bastard I’d become.

I reached the estate within two minutes. Then I walked her around the house, heading to another one of the available Jeeps, shoving her into the passenger seat.

“Where are you taking me?”

I ignored her question, moving around the vehicle and jumping inside. As soon as I revved the engine, she acted as if she would dare try to escape me. I snapped my hand around her leg, digging my fingers in. “Stay right where you are. You won’t like the punishment you receive if you don’t.” I turned my head, the same electricity we’d shared coursing through both of us.

She slumped into her seat, her luscious lower lip pouting. She could play the femme fatale all she wanted, but her intelligence had drilled information in the deepest portions of her mind.

I wasted no additional time, driving off the estate grounds quickly.

The drive took almost ten minutes given the rough terrain. Giada remained quiet throughout the ride, her hands folded in her lap as she stared into the windshield. When I made the turn toward the area where the assassins had been found, the first sound she made was one of concern. I smelled fear on her, but I also gathered a whiff of her continued lust, the fragrance permeating my nostrils.

As I passed the lookout stand, she glanced at the tall tower, taking several deep breaths. I pulled the Jeep as close to the beach as possible, throwing the gear into park. When I cut the engine, she remained exactly where she was, clutching the dashboard with enough strength her fingers were white.

“What is this place?” she managed when I flung open her door.

“This is the most southern portion of the island. Unfortunately, I was just told my security had been breached.”
