Then I lost sight of him as I neared my room, the carved stone passageways offering seclusion, a perfect hiding location. He was nowhere in sight. A moment of disappointment skittered through my system. As I caught my breath, I leaned against the cold stone, visions of him pushing into the back of my mind. Nothing good would happen from enticing him any further.

I sensed him seconds before he grabbed my throat with one hand, fisting the back of my hair with the other. Then he lowered his head, whispering in my ear.

“You should know by now that there is no escape. Not now. Not ever.”

CHAPTER7

Alexei

No escape.

That was the truth. Whether or not she liked the situation or approved, she was now a part of my world. Whatever decisions I made in the future regarding her would be tempered by my increasing need.

It was another disconcerting reality.

The moment the asshole had touched her, I’d shifted to another playing field with her, unwilling to shove her aside under any circumstances.

“I wasn’t running from you. How could I?” she whispered as she wrapped her hands around my forearms, gasping for air.

“Hmm… That’s not how it appeared.” I stretched her lovely neck, dropping my head by several inches, the intensity of her scent spilling into every cell and muscle. Catching a single glimpse of her had dragged out the possessive side of me.

“Then you’d be wrong.”

As I peered down at her, my balls tightened. I brushed my lips across hers then nipped at her earlobe before pulling away, taking several deep breaths.

“Did you dream about me last night after I left your bed, Stephanie? Did you envision our bodies entwined together as I drove my cock deep inside your tight little pussy? Did you long to find me lying next to you when the first rays of sunshine hit your pillow?”

“No. I…”

The way she faltered ripped at what was left of my humanity.

“You didn’t wish that I would find you again, driving you into another wave of rapture?”

“Never.”

“Then you would be lying to me, my lioness, and I don’t appreciate liars. Your body has already betrayed you, my beautiful creature. Do you not think I captured every moment of what pleasured you, sending you spiraling into ecstasy? Did you not believe I’d pay attention to the way your body responded even while we were on the dance floor?” I asked. “You enjoy pain as much as you do sweet bliss.” When I pinched her nipple, she wiggled her hips, a moan escaping. “That’s it. Show me how much you want me.”

“Stop,” she insisted, yet she arched her back, yielding to me.

“Haven’t you figured it out yet that I will never stop? I’m an insatiable man, Stephanie.” Did the woman not know what she was doing to me? Did she not understand I was crazed with desire, foregoing all sense of rationality? Shades of lust clouded my visibility, the shadows and dim lighting barely illuminating the voluptuous woman standing in front of me due to the continued haze. Yet I didn’t need to see her to catch every nuance of her boosted fear. Had she actually run from me believing I wouldn’t follow?

Her single whimper of fear was heartfelt, all the ugly realizations of who and what she was dealing with settling in. As I’d watched her slip into the darkness, her laughter filtering into my ears, something had snapped inside of me. My need for her wasn’t solely about a physical attraction or the desire to have her surrender, writhing underneath me. It also wasn’t about punishing her for the way she’d handled several of my associates over the last few years. And it certainly had nothing to do with the fact Gregory had once been allowed the freedom to taste what should never have belonged to him.

The truth was much darker, overwhelming. I wanted nothing more than to strip her away from her world, keeping her under lock and key. Even in delving into such despicable thoughts, the goodness she represented prevented me from acting on my sadistic needs.

At this point.

The woman was the light to my darkness.

I knew it innately.

Without her influence, I would eventually lose what little was left of my humanity. The thought both surprised and pissed me off. I’d never needed anyone before. Why now? Why her?

“Maybe I don’t want you,” she said, her whispered voice offering zero conviction, her eyes even glassier than before.

“You won’t deny me,” I growled, twisting her nipple several additional times. “Are you wet for me?”

“Bastard.” Her entire body shuddered from my savage touch. Her body betrayed her again as her hand fluttered down my chest, her long fingers brushing across my groin. I was so hard the anguish was intoxicating.
