I hiss as my mug dips, splashing hot cocoa on my bare hand. “Seth,” I groan.

Seth takes my hand, licking up the liquid in a way that stirs my insides. “Sorry,” he murmurs against my hand, before placing a kiss on my reddening skin.

I can’t help, but smile, leaning into the arm he wraps around my shoulder. “All forgiven.”

“Well, I’m down to party,” says Hunter, leaning against the couch. “Might be nice to socialize a bit before the semester starts.”

The three of us stare at Hunter as if he has completely lost his mind. “Socialize?” Lucas repeats. “You call going to Marcus’s party socializing?”

Seth sighs. “Cut the man a break, Lucas. He hasn’t even met this Marcus. Neither have I, for that matter.”

“Oh, trust me, you’re not missing much,” I say, rolling my eyes. “Apparently, I don’t even have a name. I’m just a chick.”

Seth gasps mockingly. “No, you? Just a chick? That bastard.” He smacks his leg for emphasis while I shake my head. “You’re not just a chick, you’re the number one chick.”

I smack his shoulder teasingly which he grabs before I can get away. He pulls me to him and I gasp, holding my mug up high so I don’t spill it on the couch. “Seriously, Seth.”

Seth scoffs. “Oh, you know you like it.”

“Well, I for one would like to go to the party,” I hear Hunter say. I turn to him, watching him cross his arms and glare at us as if we were two rowdy teenagers.

I guess that isn’t really too far from the truth.

Lucas groans. “I guess we can go.”

Seth shrugs. “I’m fine with it. I’m kinda interested in meeting this Marcus character.” Seth kisses my forehead. “What about you, Chickadee?”

I groan. “Fine. We can go, but I want another hot cocoa.”

Hunter smiles and I’m happy and worried at the joy I see glimmering in his gaze. “On it!” He calls while turning back to the counter.

Well, Lucas definitely wasn’t lying when he said Marcus cared about looks and money, I think while looking around the cottage, holding a glass of champagne in my hand. The place is packed full of beautiful, big-breasted women and jock studs. A chandelier hangs from the ceiling, smaller than Lucas’s yet extremely gaudy with blue and green crystals hanging from gold chains. The whole place is smaller than Lucas’s cottage-mansion, yet extravagantly decorated in mismatched colors. As if Marcus and his family are actually trying to show off how much money they have.

Girls laugh, tripping over themselves and splashing wine all over the wooden floor while a man picks one of them up, throwing her over his shoulder and running away with her. I lean into Seth, my hand tightening on his and praying he doesn’t leave me alone in this mess. I see Lucas leaning against a wall, listening to Marcus go on and on, looking extremely bored while Hunter pours himself another beer.

That’s already his fourth beer. I pull my phone out of my back pocket, groaning at the time. We’ve only been here for an hour. I look up, finding Hunter down his drink, gulping down every last drop before pouring yet another.

I lean into Seth. “Is Hunter okay?”

Seth follows my gaze and I feel him still next to me as he watches Hunter sway and nearly trip over his feet. “I honestly don’t know.”

I frown. That’s not the answer I wanted at all. I can’t take my eyes off Hunter as he swerves, looking around himself. His face is filled with confusion, as if he doesn’t even know where he is. What exactly was in those pills he took? I wonder. My whole body inches to go towards him, help him, maybe even take him home.

He smiles at a group of girls, holding up a hand and twiddling his fingers at them and my gaze darkens. Jealousy brims within me as I watch the girls giggle and wave back.

Oh, hells no.

I take a step forward, about to smack him over the head, but I’m stopped by Seth. “You go save Lucas from Marcus and I will grab Hunter.”

I give him a curt nod before forcing myself to turn around, yet I can’t help, but think about those girls and how wasted Hunter is.

Just what the hell is going on with him?

Tomorrow, I tell myself, tomorrow I am definitely talking to him and getting to the bottom of all this. There is no way I am going to let this fester for the whole second semester, especially after we’ve already resolved our issues from the last.

I lift my head, push back my shoulders, and straighten my spine before striding towards Lucas, sliding a hand up his arm. He glances at me, yet Marcus doesn’t even seem to notice.
