We turn a corner and I giggle as Lucas pushes me up against a brick building. His hip presses in-between my legs and his head lowers. My breath falters as my gaze catches on his lips, lingering just above my own.

“And what exactly, could we have gotten up to, Rachel?” Lucas whispers, his breath warming mine.

I angle my head up to him and I go up to my tiptoes, brushing my lips against his. “Oh, I don’t know,” I breathe. “Stuff.”

Lucas chuckles and his free hand lowers to my hip, pulling me closer. My eyes flutter close and I yearn for his touch. Warmth pulls into my core as I wait.

Something vibrates and my eyes snap open. Lucas frowns and I see him questioning himself whether to answer his phone or not. He rolls his eyes and mutters, “Shit,” while search his coat pockets, finding the phone and scowling down at the name on the Caller ID.

“Who is it?” I ask when his eyes widen.

“It’s Hunter,” he says before pressing the answer key and moving it to his ear. “Hey, bro, this really isn’t a good-” Lucas’s frown deepens. “Hunter?” He pulls his phone away from his ear for a moment, staring down at the Caller ID again before returning it to the side of his face. “Dude, I don’t understand a word you’re saying. Are you okay?” Lucas waits for an answer, his gaze meeting mine.

The worry I find there does nothing to halt the fear brimming within me.

“Where are you? Hunter?” Lucas sighs and kicks the building. “Un-fucking-believable,” he mutters.

“Is he okay?” I ask while lightly touching Lucas’s arm.

Lucas holds a finger up to me. “Millie’s house? Why the hell are you- never mind. We’re on our way.”

“Is he alright?” I ask while Lucas hangs up and shoves his phone back into his pocket.

“Come on,” he says while taking my hand and pulling me in the opposite direction of home. “It’s about a ten-minute walk.”

“Lucas, just tell me if he’s alright,” I say, my voice shrill, but I get no answer as Lucas drags me down the road towards Hunter with a dark scowl on his face.
