Hunter’s dad release her hand and shakes his head. “I can’t believe you live here in this dump.”

“Oh, you should have seen it before.”

Hunter’s dad turns towards us and he claps his hands together. “You ready?”

I turn towards Hunter, watching him grimace. “I guess.”

“Actually,” says Seth while stepping forward. “I was wondering if Hunter could hang out for tonight.”

“Yeah, we were thinking about having pizza and maybe playing some Mario Kart,” says Rachel cheerfully.

Hunter’s dad makes a face. “I don’t know. I think it would be best if-”

“Please, Dad,” says Hunter. I turn to him, finding his gaze lingering on the floor. “Just for tonight?” He lifts his gaze, his eyes slightly swollen from crying. “It would be nice to hang with my friends for a bit before going back home.”

I watch Hunter’s dad, waiting for him to say no. His dad, to my surprise, bobs his head up and down and finally says, “Alright. Just for tonight. I’ll pick you up tomorrow morning.” He points at his son and says sternly, “Be ready by eleven. And you better not be hung over.”

Hunter chuckles. “I won’t be.”

We all watch his father leave, the door clicking shut behind him before we all turn our attentions to Hunter.

“So,” he starts, “pizza?”

“I’ll order,” says Rachel while grabbing her phone.

I smile and stride towards the TV. “I’ll set up the games.”

“Wait!” Shouts Seth while holding out his hands. “We need to have a meeting.”

I frown and Hunter crosses his arms. “About what?” Hunter asks, sounding accusatory.

“Not about you,” says Seth with an eye roll. “It’s about Rachel.” He gestures towards her, who is holding her phone up to her ear.

“Me?” She asks while pointing a finger at herself. “Why me?”

“It’s about what you told me,” Seth says through clenched teeth.

Rachel glares at him. “Oh, you must be kidding me.”

“What’s this about?” I asked while crossing my arms, not really liking where any of this is going. It’s been awhile since we had a roommate meeting about Rachel, and the last one did not go well at all.

“Please don’t tell me you want to kick her out again,” Hunter groans. “I know I haven’t been here all that much this semester, but I doubt she’s done anything wrong.”

Seth narrows his eyes at Hunter. “It’s not that.” I watch him slide his gaze towards Rachel, who is still scowling up at him. “Well,” he says while gesturing to me and Hunter. “Tell them.”

Rachel huffs. She opens her mouth to say something, but her face brightens. “Hello,” she says into her phone, turning away from us. “Yes, I would like to order three large pizzas. Two pepperoni and one Hawaiian. Extra pineapples.”

I gag and Hunter coughs. “Nevermind,” I say while stalking towards the couch. “We’re kicking her out. Anyone who eats pineapple on their pizza doesn’t deserve to live her.”

Rachel sticks her tongue out at me and I chuckle, jumping into the couch. Hunter joins me while Seth sits on the armrest. Together, we all wait for her to hang up and set aside her phone. When she turns around, her gaze widens as she finds all three of us staring at her.

“So,” I start, “what’s going on?”

Rachel groans and pinches her nose in annoyance. “Seth, seriously! Why did you have to say anything?”

“Because they should know, too.”

Rachel shakes her head, resting her hands on her hips. “Yes, and I would’ve told them in private and in person.”
