I wince. “Um, ok.”
“Well, where are they?” Mom asks while looking around.
My frown deepens. “They’re… here.” I nod towards Hunter and Lucas, still standing at the staircase. “Thedark-hairedone is Lucas. The one who looks like Thor is Hunter.” My stomach twists as I see my mom’s brows tenting in confusion. I turn towards Seth, currently hobbling towards us with his backpack slung over his shoulder. “And that’s Seth.”
Mom turns her attentions back to me, her chin jutting out. Her hands plant onto her hips and I stifle a groan, already knowing I’m in for a very long lecture.
“You’re living with a bunch of men?”
I nod. I don’t know if I’m going to vomit or pass out. I don’t know which would be better right about now.
“Under one roof?”
I nod again, my stomach churning.
Before I can get sick everywhere, my mom’s scowl dissipates, andshe smiles brightly, throwing an arm around my shoulders and guiding me towards the apartment. “Why didn’t you sayso?” She waves at the bros excitedly while I stare at them in confusion. “Let’s unpack and get some food. I’m starving. I can’t wait to hear all about Paris.”
I allow her to guide me inside, feeling numb as I listen to her talk about family and New York. It’s great that she’s okay with my roommates, but what will she say when I tell her about our relationship? A part of me wants to ask how long she is staying and where?
I have no clue how long I will be able to keep this secret from her.
I’m surprised I’ve kept it secret this long.
I feel a chill come over me as I watch her look around our apartment, releasing it’s only a matter of time before she finds out.
