I swallow the lump in my throat. My heart feels like it’s been run through with a knife. “So, you guys are still dating?” I slowly turn towards him. I feel dizzy as I watch his head bob up and down.

“Yeah, we’re still dating. Everything’s good.”

I force a smile, but all I feel is anger boiling deep within me. “Great,” I force out, my smile making my cheeks hurt.

She’s cheating on Lucas.

I can’t believe she’s cheating on Lucas.

We’ve nearly caught up with Rachel and Seth and part of me wants to grab Seth’s arm and throw it off her and demand to know why. Why is she doing this to Lucas? I grimace. No. That’s not the right question, and the thought of what I want makes me feel like the greatest ass in the world.

No.

What I want to ask her is: Why not me?

Why didn’t she pick me?

Ugh. I deserve to be punched in the face. Lucas is my friend. I shouldn’t want his girl. I shouldn’t want for her to be cheating on him with me. Honestly, I should tell Lucas what I saw at Mike’s party. He deserves to know. It might save him some heartache. I open my mouth, but nothing escapes me.

Maybe I should talk to Rachel about it first; ask her why she’s cheating on Lucas with Seth.

But then she would know I had been watching her.

Lucas quickens his step, and I watch as he grabs Rachel’s arm, tugging her towards him. My frown deepens as I watch the trio. Seth’s arm is on Rachel’s shoulder and her arm is on Lucas’s. It’s like Lucas doesn’t care that Seth is touching her.

What if he knows?

My eyes widen as the thought seeps through me. He can’t possibly know about Seth and Rachel.

But what if he does?

“You okay there, slugger?” Charlie asks.

I force a smile, hoping it doesn’t look like a wince as I turn towards Charlie, putting on my charm. I tilt my head towards her, closing the distance between us. She’s Rachel’s closest friend. She’ll probably know what’s going on.

I nod towards the trio and ask as casually as possible, “What’s going on with them?” I force a chuckle, hoping I sound easy and uncaring. “They seem closer than most.”

Charlie smiles slyly, a mischievous glint in her gaze as she waggles her eyebrows. “You’ll have to ask them. That’s their business”

My frown deepens as Charlie straightens and strides ahead of me, catching up with the gang. “Go Aurora!” she shouts while thrusting her fists into the air.

‘Ask them?’ She says. I wince. That’s easier said than done.

RACHEL

Istandonthebleachers, waiting for the team to come out while trying very hard not to remember how Alex’s defined muscles felt underneath my palm. Ugh. Why did I let Charlie do that? I glance in her direction and find her standing on the other side of Alex. She made sure Alex was in between us, probably because she knew how much I wanted to yell at her. She knows well enough how attracted I am to Alex. Why did she have to grab me and make me touch him?

And in front of Seth and Lucas!

My gaze shifts to Seth standing at my side. Lucas is standing next to Seth, their gazes fixated on the field below us. They don’t seem angry, but then again, they don’t know how I’ve been feeling lately.

I frown. How do I tell them that I kinda like someone else without getting into a huge fight? Seth will definitely explode like Pompeii. Maybe I wait and see how my feelings develop. This could only be a slight crush, a simple attraction. There’s probably nothing more to it.

The arena explodes into cheers as the Aurora football team runs out of the entrance and onto the field. I stomp my feet on the bleachers while Seth and Lucas take out their keys, jingling them loudly while shouting.

“Go Hunter!” I shout as loud as possible.
