He could live with us,a thought whispers inside me.He could stay with Lucas and help with the rent.

No, that’s impossible,I quickly tell myself.Lucas won’t agree to that. He likes having his space and Seth would kill Alex. And then he would kill me.

“Alright, I think we’re set,” says Alex while straightening. He wipes the wrinkles from his pants before disappearing into the bathroom near the foyer.

“Are you sure you want to do this?” I call after him. “I like your blonde hair.”

“Hells yeah, I’m sure,” says Alex while coming out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his shoulders and the box dye in one hand.

He hands the box to me, and I frown at the woman in the picture, whose hair is the color of Charlie’s favorite red lipstick. “I might seriously screw this up,” I say, shuffling from one foot to the other. “I’ve never dyed hair.”

“It’ll be fine,” says Alex while dumping his body into the chair. “It’s not like we’re working with bleach. Just make sure to get every single strand. Use as much of the dye as you can and try not to get it on my skin.”

“You seem pretty confident about this.”

Alex shrugs. “I’ve been wanting to dye my hair for years, but my parents have never allowed me.” He smirks up at me as I edge closer to him. “According to them, doctors don’t dye their hair funky colors.”

I chuckle while ripping the lid off the box, producing a small cup, brush, a pair of gloves, and a small tube of red dye. Turning the box over, I read through the instructions, finding that I need to mix the concoction with conditioner.

“I thought you said there’d be pizza and beer,” I say while striding into the bathroom and grabbing the hotel conditioner from the shower caddy.

Alex’s soft chuckle greets my ears as I return and I lift my gaze, finding him grabbing his phone from his jeans. “Pizza, of course. I nearly forgot.”

I raise an eyebrow at him. “Nearly forgot? Or trying to get out of your pizza purchasing duties?”

Alex’s jaw drops and he gazes up at me with mock shock mixed with amusement. “Me?” he asks while pointing to himself. “Get out of pizza duties? I would never!”

I laugh while I watch him type into his phone. The air seems to ease while I mix the conditioner and dye together in the small bowl, turning my gaze away from him and watching the red bleed into the white.

“What do you want? Meat Lovers? Vegetarian? Pine-”

“Pineapple,” I finish for him. My smile widens while I vigorously stir the ingredients, waiting for him to tell me I’m disgusting.

“Hells yeah,” Alex says instead. “I’ve finally met someone reasonable on this God forsaken campus.”

I chuckle and slap on my gloves. “You like pineapple pizza, too?” I ask while striding towards him with a brush stained with red.

Alex waggles his eyebrows. “You bet. You would not believe all the disgusted looks I get when my family and I are in Italy. Most of the time they flat out refuse to put it on, so I bring a side of pineapple in my backpack just in case.”

I make a face. “You’re lying.”

Alex shakes his head. “Not at all. My parents always get so embarrassed, but hey,” he says with a shrug, “I like what I like. Nothing wrong with that, right?”

I stare back at him, feeling my heart swell as I gaze down at him. There’s something easy about being around him. He’s so charming, like a prince from a fairy tale with his golden hair and his blue eyes. I hold the brush between us, about to erase everything princely about him.

“Are you sure about this?” I ask while nodding towards my brush.

He slowly nods. “Absolutely,” he breathes.

I ease towards him. The brush hovers barely a centimeter over his head. I really hope I don’t mess this up. The instructions don’t say much: only to mix with conditioner, paint the whole head, and then wait about thirty minutes.

Easy enough, right?

“Are you nervous?” Alex chuckles. “Don’t worry. I swear I’ll like it, does that help?”

I shake my head. “Not at all.”

"There’s beer in the fridge, if you want. You can blame it on that if you fuck anything up.”
