I could really go for a drink.

“Because it wouldn’t be fair to you,” I say sternly, opening my eyes and seeing her dark scowl.

“What do you mean it won’t be fair to me?” Rachel throws her hands up. “I don’t think you’re being fair now. We can still be together.”

“No, we can’t.”

“Yes, we can!” Rachel smacks the cushion, her breath coming out as gasps.

I really need a drink. Now. Right now.

“Rachel, please,” I whisper while taking her hands.

She sobs, tears streaming down her cheeks. Her fingers lace with mine. “Why don’t you believe in us, Hunter?”

“I do believe in us.” I pull her closer, my arms wrapping tightly around her like she’s my life line. My gaze flies to the refrigerator and vaguely I wonder if Seth still keeps any beer in there. No. You don’t need it. You don’t need to drink. You’re doing good. Don’t fuck it up now.

“Then why can’t we stay together?” she asks while pulling away from me.

I brush her hair away from her face. Tears are still dripping from her eyes. I press a kiss against her cheeks, tasting salt. I press another against her forehead. “We can still be together,” I whisper, not understanding what I’m saying. I’m going to confuse us both, but I don’t want her to be sad. I don’t want to leave her.

But I have to.

She seizes my lips, her tongue darting inside and stroking me tenderly. I growl and throw off my coat. The fire inside me igniting, my cock awakening to her desire. She tears off her coat before her hands go for my shirt, tugging it up and over my shoulders. I fumble with the bottom of her sweater, yanking it off of her before reaching for her bra, unclasping it quickly. I push her down onto the couch. Her legs wrap around me as I deftly undo the button to my jeans. My fingers tremble as her body bucks against mine. I moan and kiss her neck, my teeth grazing against her skin, enjoying the taste of her. Her hand finds me and I hiss, my eyes seeing only her, wanting only her. I’m so eager to enter her, eager to think of anything else, but us and our future in the next several months.

But I know, when the time comes, I will have to leave her behind.
