I hang up and dial again. I don’t know how many times I continue on like that. I don’t care if Hunter wakes up and sees that he has twenty missed calls from me. I’m his girlfriend. He should pick up the fucking phone.

“Rachel!”

I blink. Is that Hunter? Did he finally pick up? Someone is shaking my shoulder and I turn around, finding Seth scowling down at me.

“Why the fuck did you leave?”

“Huh?” I blink again and turn toward my phone, hearing, “We’re sorry, but the caller can’t—”

“I was so worried!” Seth continues shouting while running a hand through his hair. “I thought something had happened to you. Alex—”

“Why doesn’t he love me?” I sob, my face crumbling, my whole body melting into the floor as I bury my head into the dirty floor.

Seth kneels next to me, wrapping his arms around me and pulling me close. “Alex? Of course he loves you. The fucking bastard is always hovering around you and taking you away from me.”

“No!” I shout, more tears dripping from my eyes as I squint up at Seth. He strokes my hair away from my face, some of the locks wet from my tears. “Hunter! Why isn’t he messaging me back? Why doesn’t he have time for me anymore?”

“Oh, Rachel,” Seth breathes, his arms tightening around me. “You know he’s busy with work.”

I shake my head. “No one can be this busy. Doesn’t he love me anymore?”

“I’m sure he does.” Seth pulls me close, hugging tightly, breathing me in. “He’d be stupid not to.”

I bury my face in Seth’s neck, releasing all the pain I’ve held in up to this point. I don’t know how I’ve been able to hold myself together these past few months. Seth shushes me while rocking me back and forth softly, as if he’s lulling me to sleep.

“It’s all right,” he whispers in my ear. “Everything is going to be just fine.”

I nuzzle my nose against his cheek, breathing his scent in deep. He smells like sweat and beer and something else, something masculine and entirely him. I want to drown in him and pretend this night never happened—pretend like everything with Hunter and Charlie is absolutely perfect; ignore the fact that my parents are divorced.

“I love you, you know,” Seth says, and I still at the tremble in his voice.

My heart flutters and I fist his shirt in my hands, never wanting to let him go. “Do you?” I whisper.

He nods and pulls away from me. There’s warmth in his eyes as he gazes down at me, a softness to his mouth. “Of course I do. Me being bi doesn’t change any of that.”

“And what about Alex?”

Seth stills, his mouth falling open. I watch him promptly close it while his gaze shifts away from me and toward the floor. “What about Alex?”

“I saw the way you were looking at him. You looked… interested.”

I watch Seth run his hands over his jeans, smoothing the wrinkles there. His shoulders look tense. He can’t seem to meet my gaze. “And what if I told you that I am… interested in him.”

“I would say”—I begin while resting my hand on top of his, halting any further movement. His eyes meet mine and I hold his gaze, hoping he doesn’t look away as I say—“that it’s fine.”

“It doesn’t mean I love you any less,” Seth whispers, tears glimmering in his eyes. “I love you more now than I ever thought possible. I want to be with you.”

I nod. “I know.”

“It’s just that I-I—”

“Need to figure things out with Alex?” I offer.

He nods, and his shoulders slump. “Yeah.”

I shift closer to him, wrapping my arms around his neck. I nuzzle my nose against his cheek and his eyes meet mine, his breath catching as I whisper, “I love you, too.”

I lean forward and Seth meets me. He claims my lips, his tongue brushing lightly against me, and I open for him, my hands snaking up from his shoulders to his head, holding him to me as we kiss. Fire blazes through me, settling in the pit of my stomach as my tongue meets his, dancing and stroking around him. His teeth graze me and I moan, burying myself deeper into him, never wanting this pleasure to end.
