I pull open one drawer, finding it empty and waiting for my cheap clothes. I turn around and look at the rest of the room. The windows are actually doors leading out to a balcony I suspect looks over a garden. It’s covered in snow, and I wonder what it would look like if I came here during the summer. Although, my parents will probably be pissed if I stay with Alex again. They weren’t quite the happiest when I told them I was staying with one of my boyfriends. Mom wasn’t happy, because she wants me to meet this Bryan guy she’s been dating the last two months. Dad wasn’t happy because… well… he’s just not happy that I’m dating four guys at the same time.

“It’s lovely,” I say, trying desperately to focus on the handsome man in bed rather than on my grumpy, needy parents.

Alex rolls over and crawls towards me. His eyes mischievous while he crooks a finger at me. “Wanna test out the mattress? I’m pretty positive it doesn’t squeak.”

I chuckle while striding towards him. “You’re so naughty.”

“It’s been two weeks!”

I shake my head and cup his face. “Nearly two weeks.”

“Same thing,” he murmurs while leaning towards me, his lips nearly upon mine.

A smile graces my lips as I close the distance between us. The brush of our lips finally touching is like electricity zipping through my veins. Alex was right. Two weeks is too long. His tongue runs along my bottom lip and I shudder while opening myself to him, wanting to feel more of him stroking me. He goes up onto his knees. His hands cup my face, stroking my cheek while pushing my hair away from my face.

“You’re so beautiful,” he whispers against my lips before kissing me again, this time sliding his tongue against mine in a dance I know oh so well.

“Hello!” I hear Lucas shouting and my eyes widen, my hands pushing Alex away.

Alex’s brows tent in a frustrated grimace and he peaks over me at the open door. His hands are tight on my shoulders and part of me wonders if he will ignore the call.

“Hello!” Lucas shouts again. “Anyone home?”

“Hello,” I hear Seth say in a taunting and unusually low voice that has me giggling. “Welcome to my manor.”

Alex rolls his eyes and swiftly jumps out of bed. I follow him out of my room and towards the foyer, where Lucas is waiting with what appears to be two bottles of champagne in his hands and a folder under his arm.

Hunter frowns and I watch him knead his bottom lip with his front teeth, looking concerned as he stares at Lucas with the bottles. I rush to his side, placing a hand on his shoulder, hoping my small touch gives him some sort of support.

“I don’t think it’s alcohol,” I whisper to him.

Hunter nods. “I know.”

“How was brunch?” Alex asks while rushing past us towards Lucas. “I see you made it back alive. So it wasn’t that bad, right?”

Lucas groans. “It was bad. Dad refused to even look at me.”

“Well, your dad has always been the stubborn type,” Alex says while patting Lucas’s shoulder and pushing him closer towards us. “Why did you bring champagne?” Alex wrinkles his nose as he leans closer, reading the bottle. “Correction, why did you bring kid’s champagne? And why is it raspberry flavored?”

Lucas hands the bottles over to Alex and takes the folding out from under his arm, wagging it at us while brandishing a wide, coy smile. “Because, I just met with a literary agent, and she is making me an offer.”

I run to Lucas, throwing my arms around him. “That’s amazing!” I shout, my giddiness usurping me. I jump up and down while holding onto Lucas, feeling his arms coming around me, his chuckle at my ear. “Which story is it?” I ask while pulling away from him. “The one about the sun and moon falling in love? The collection of short stories about cafe customers? The one about Paris?”

I watch an array of emotions flash over Lucas’s face. It’s a mixture of shock, alarm, annoyance, and finally, acceptance. Definitely not what I would expect coming from a man whose life goal is to become published.

“It’s a new one,” he says, his tone hesitant. “You haven’t read it.”

”Is that it?” I ask while nodding to the folder.

Lucas clutches the folder close to him as if he’s worried I’m going to snatch it from his hands. “No. This is the contract and the amount they’re wanting to offer me.”

“Well, how much are they offering?” Seth asks while stepping forward.

Lucas grimaces. “I’m not going to tell you that.”

Seth waggles his eyebrows. ”Is it a lot.”

“It’s enough,” Lucas says while stalking past us and towards the kitchen. “Now, enough questions. Let’s drink to my success.”
