“Suffer,” I finished.

“Um.” Leo tossed Elliot a side glance. “You’regonnahave to be more specific.”

“Fine,” I said. “To be specific, Vivian wants me out of the picture. Our ofher life, out of Freeman, away from her stupid fuck buddy. I want to do the same thing. Get her expelled.”

A smirk crossed my lips at the thought.

“Gone,” I finished. “Exposed for what she is. A bully, a bitch, whatever you want to call her. Be as creative as you like, boys.”

Even though I’d told myself I wouldn’t think of him, Pierre’s voice floated past me in the breeze. And I couldn’t ignore it. Not this time.

Don’t change too much, Kitty Kat.

“But whatever it is,” I added, heeding Pierre’s command in my head, “make sure it serves justice. Don’t do more than you need to. I just want to get the message across that she shouldn’t mess with me, or anyone else, again.”

Leo nodded, the smile on his lips expanding with each word that came out of my mouth.

“Love it,” he declared, clapping his hands together. “I think I know what to do. Elliot?”

“Hm?” Elliot looked up at him, obviously still half-asleep. “Yeah?”

“You think you can slip away from the big man for the night? We got planning to do.”

Elliot shrugged. “You already dragged my ass out here, so sure.”

He glanced at me, then at the ground. It occurred to me that he hadn’t been warned about my knowledge of his situation at home—the financial shit that seemed to justify his attending Powell instead of a more prestigious university anywhere else in the world.

Leo nodded. “Nice.”

“Let’s continue this back at Powell,” Felix said, spinning the car keys around his finger as he stepped around us toward the front seat. “Kat? Drop you home?”

“No way,” Leo interjected, before I had the chance to reply. “She’s staying. We need her input.”

I glanced at Elliot to see his reaction to Leo’s outburst, and he caught my eye, holding it for a long moment before pulling away as he headed around to the back seat.

“Fine,” he said. “You get shotgun.”

“What?” Leo said, throwing his arm up as if he were honestly exasperated. “That’s cruel, man.”

“That’s what you get,” Elliot hissed back. Before that comment, I couldn’t get a read on his mood, but for the first time since I’ve known him, he sounded actually irritated. As if getting to share the back of a car withmewas some big accomplishment.

I almost bit back some laughter, until Leo’s words crept back at me.

Maybe we all changed our minds, he’d said.Or our hearts.

It was a nice idea. The fact that, maybe, just maybe, these bad boys had some sort of a soft spot for me under all their rough edges and even rougher actions. But it didn’t add up. And I’d never believe it, even if they insisted on driving me home a thousand times over.

They were Vivian’s type.

And I’d never be like her.

“I like how neither of you bothered asking Kat what she wants,” Felix said, glancing at me in the rearview as we crowded into the car. “So? Youwannacome with?”

I tilted my head up to gaze back at him. To be honest, hearing him say that was more refreshing than unexpected. I liked it.

“I’ve been awake this long,” I concluded. “Why not stay up another few hours plotting with you guys?”

“Awesome,” Leo said, kicking his feet up onto the dashboard. “More quality time.”
