“Don’t think that just because you don’t go to the same institution as these young ladies,” the Dean continued, gesturing to me and Vivian, “that you won’t get punished. I know exactly what Powell’s administration will have to say about this, and it’s not going to be pretty.”

For the first time since I’d arrived on the scene, Elliot moved—throwing up his arms, he pushed back his chair as if to make a mad dash for the door.

“Fine, get them involved, but I’m not the one at fault here.” He glared at Vivian. “This bitch will get what’s coming to her.”

“Mr. Lancaster!” The dean chided. Elliot sank back down to his chair. “Is that’s all you have to say?” the Dean pressed.

“Yeah.”

She turned to Jason, whose eyes hadn’t moved from the floor. “So, it seems we have two sides pointing fingers at each other with you in the middle. Do you care to clear the air with your side of the story?”

Jason swallowed before looking up to the dean and then over to Vivian, who looked like she was going to bore a hole through his head with her glare alone.

“Vivian paid me to do it,” he admitted then went silent. His eyes were back to the floor and he wasn’t going to dare look Vivian in the eye again.

“How dare you!” Vivian shrieked. She shot up from her chair and I was sure she was about to pounce on Jason. “That’s not what we talked about!”

The dean stood, positioning herself between Vivian and Jason. “Vivian, please sit down. You don’t want assault added to your list of transgressions.”

Vivian huffed then slowly sat down. I watched as she worked her jaw and I could practically hear her teeth grinding.

“Now, before we go on…” the Dean began, almost reluctantly. This had to have been the most amusement she’d had throughout her whole career at Freeman. “Why don’t we schedule times to meet one-on-one? Now that I’ve gotten the full picture, I think it’s best that I meet with each one of you separately to dig a little deeper into the situation. I believe we have the generally gist of what’s going on, but I’ll need further details before punishments are decided.”

No one responded, except for a few shrugs here and there. The dean looked between us and opened her mouth to speak when someone’s ringtone broke the silence. The dean put up a finger, indicating that we should wait for a moment as she took her phone and stepped out of the room.

“So… it wasn’t you?” I asked, turning to Elliot. “You didn’t plan this?”

“No.” I came out like a whisper. “And I’m sorry all this happened.” He gestured around at the situation we were in. “And I’m sorry about Pierre.”

“Me too,” Leo chimed in.

“Me too… too,” Felix added.

I smiled at the three of them, relieved that they hadn’t been involved, but also angry that I had actually believed Vivian, even if it was only for a moment.

Vivian.

That liar.

Thatbitch.

I turned to Vivian, a rage suddenly boiling up from inside. Just like everything else that had happened since I arrived, this washerfault. I could feel the flush rising in my cheeks and my fingernails digging into my palms as I balled my hands into fists. I was ready to jump from my seat and wail on her.

“Don’t,” a voice came from beside me, along with a soft hand on my shoulder. “It isn’t worth it.”

“Isn’t worth it?Isn’t worth it?” I hissed turning to the voice and meeting Elliot’s eyes. The corner of his lip turned up in a kind of half smirk and he shook his head.

I wanted to push him away. I wanted to tackle Vivian to the ground and yell and scream and punch until all of the rage inside of me was gone. Until what she did to Pierre was avenged.

“Excuse me, Miss Russo,” the Dean practically growled as she re-entered the room. “Please come with me, there is an issue with your room.”

Vivian’s expression went cold. She looked around the room, blinking as if she was seeing everyone for the first time, as if it’d finally hit her that she was in trouble of some shape or form.

“Vivian?” the Dean asked.

Vivian rose from her seat, cursing under her breath. In less than two seconds she’d gathered up her stuff and was headed toward the door.

“You may all go, though we will be in contact to follow up,” the dean said before following Vivian out, the door slamming shut behind her.
