Prologue

Ournakedbodiesaresprawled out on the floor of Emilio’s office; mine, Calder, Mikhail, and Axel’s, spent in pleasure, staring up at the ceiling in complete ecstasy. My eyes widen as I feel the velvety carpet beneath my bottom.

“You know we’re lying on a gold mine, right?” I drag my words as though the realization has just begun to play out in my mind in slow motion.

You could hear a pin drop as we search the room for each other’s eyes.

“What’re you sayin’, little lady? You thinkin’ what I’m thinkin’?” Axel asks me with a grin.

All of us rise immediately, quickly donning our clothes and reaching for our weapons. The casino should still be empty after we cleared it out earlier and the security system should still be down but just in case, we arm ourselves as we all head toward the door.

“Vault?” Axel asks.

“First floor, around the back,” Calder responds, knowing this from scoping out the hotel and casino earlier.

“Yeah, but we’re gonna need a security code,” Mikhail says.

I can feel his breath upon my neck as my ass bounces against his thigh while he stands behind me, covering me and glancing around the room.

“Shit, how are we gonna get that?” I ask, while my cheeks burn and the heat spreads over my neck.

“Security room, let’s head over now. I’ll get the code there,” Calder speaks quickly and my heartbeat speeds up. I love it when he talks techy.

Out in the hallway, our eyes dart from side to side, ensuring that we are completely aware of our surroundings because we can never be too careful. We tiptoe behind Calder as he leads us downstairs, around the back area close to the main floor. There’s a glass door at the entrance of the security room and we can see computer screens decorating the room. We’re about to push the door when we’re met with one of the security guys at the glass door. Before we could bullshit our way out of it, he raises his gun. Fuck.

We skip to the side and flatten our backs to the wall. “Shit. I thought this place was empty!” Mikhail swears. He doesn’t need anyone seeing his face knowing he works for law enforcement unless that could work in our favor. Nah, one look at that man’s face and I know he is not going to wait for an explanation before he starts shooting.

The glass door swings open and the guy jumps out, aiming his gun at us. We each pull our triggers without thinking and the man falls. Our chests heave as we stay where we are, hoping he was the only one that was in there. That was fucking close.

We let a few seconds pass before we jump out and walk into the security room with our guns held out in front of us. We let our guns lead the way as our eyes remain laser-focused for signs of trouble as we move through the room like a panther sneaking up on their prey. But no more prey makes itself known so I grab Axel and we both stand guard at the door while Mikhail guards Calder as he hacks the system and searches through several files.

“Fuck yes!” Calder exclaims. “Got it.”

I smile as we practically somersault in joy out of the room and make our way down to the vault where he enters the code and I can hear angels sing as the door clicks open. My palms itch in excitement and I wait without breathing as Calder grabs the door’s handle revealing metallic heaven.

“Wait. Fuck, we should’ve planned this better.” Mikhail stops us.

“Huh?” I crinkle my brows, staring him down.

“Bags,” he clarifies.

“Fuck.” Axel kicks at the metal boxes.

“Relax, they should have duffel bags around here somewhere. Isn’t that what they carry the money out in?” Calder says.

I gasp. “You think?” My eyes beg him to reassure me.

“Worth a shot.” He shrugs.

“Yeah, smart guy and where do they keep them? In some convenient compartment for us to find it?” Axel scoffs.

Calder doesn’t respond and just starts opening drawers. The other guys look at him like he’s lost it, scratching their heads and huffing. I join Calder because well, fucking why not. We’ve opened over twenty drawers by now. I hear Axel let out a sigh behind me and I know he’s holding back when he says, “Ain’t no bags in there. Let’s just grab what we can and get outta here.”

He might as well have called us dumbasses with his tone. But wait. Calder opens a series of drawers all on top of each other with duffel bags stuffed in them.

He turns to look at Axel with a smirk. “Guess they did leave it in a convenient compartment.”
