Iwakeuptomy fucking head pounding and as I start to stand, it’s almost impossible. I’m so confused. I only had one glass of wine last night. There’s no fucking way I’m this much of a lightweight. As the room spins, I sit back down, shutting my eyes to steady myself before I attempt to walk again, using my wall as an aid as I go through the door. The more I walk, I guess the more blood flows to my brain or something and though still groggy, I don’t need to hold on to anything to make it into the kitchen.

Man, I need some coffee. That’s all I am focused on. Coffee, please, in my system, now, thanks. As the coffee machine runs and I rub at my eyes to remove any of the “just waking up” fog that’s attacking my eyes, I hear the door open behind me. I spin around to see Calder.

“Hey man, why do you look exactly the way I feel?” I ask him.

“You feel like you suddenly weigh a thousand pounds too?” he asks me.

“Yeah.” I look at him, narrowing my eyebrows. He looks back at me with the same suspicion.

“What happened last night?” he asks me.

“I had the best sex of my life with Julissa, had some dinner and I only remember having one glass of wine. I don’t know why I’m this dizzy.” The coffee maker has just poured the black coffee into my mug. The smell is amazing and I reach for it as soon as I can, taking a sip.

“This is fucking trippy, man.” I hear Calder say. I look up from my mug to see him leaning against the wall, with his eyes wide open like he just heard that the world was under attack or something.

“What is?” I ask him.

“I had the same night.” He makes eye contact with me, his face slack with shock.

I put my mug down and we both look toward Julissa’s door. This is suspicious as fuck and she’s the common denominator. The few sips of coffee have helped a lot in clearing my head and my walk. I can’t say the same for Calder who rushes toward her door with a dizzy wobble as I come up behind him.

He opens the door and we’re both ready to demand an explanation from Julissa when we see Axel snoring in her bed instead. Calder and I both look at each other. What the fuck? Where is Julissa? I figure maybe she already left for work but I’m dying to know when the fuck Axel got here, first of all, and what his experience was with her last night.

I rush over to Axel as Calder rubs at his eyes and says, “What?” I look up to see Calder looking hilariously confused as he looks around the room as if the answer is just going to jump out at him.

“The coffee helps,” I tell him, pointing him to the kitchen.

He nods. “Yeah, I should probably get some of that if I’m going to processthisshit.”

As Calder walks away, I start shaking Axel’s shoulders. His snores come to an abrupt stop and he barely lifts his head off the bed with his eyes still closed. “Huh?” he asks before flopping his head back into the pillow, groaning. “Ow, I feel like shit.”

“You too?” I ask him.

“Me, what?” he speaks into the pillow and his voice is muffled.

“We’ve all woken up feeling like this. Did Julissa leave for work already?” I ask him.

“Julissa? Where’s Julissa?” he asks me.

Yeah, he needs some time to wake up. I march to my bedroom to grab my phone to call her. My heart almost stops at the time. Fuck, it’s almost midday. Damn it, I’m gonna get a fucking ear full from the boss today. Then the thought strikes me. I usually watch the news before going to work but well, I missed the morning news already.

All of a sudden, I can’t hear anything as I type into the online search engine the name of the small town. If she’s done what I think she’s done, there’s bound to be some news about it online. Nothing ever happens here so this would be the talk of the town.

I’m a nervous wreck as the page loads and the first headline I see makes time freeze for me. I click on it.

Grandfather slayed in his cottage in the woods.

Now the only thing I can hear is the sound of my heart, crashing against my chest, bruising my ribs. I read further about how he was slaughtered and I know exactly who did it.

Fuck! I’ve got to get to her. I rush out of the room to see Calder drinking a cup of coffee and Axel seated at the dining table, pulling his nose up and staring in space.

“She drugged us,” I announce to them.

They all turn to look at me. “Figured,” Calder says.

“Yeah, but it gets worst.” I hold my phone up. “Last night, she murdered her father and she didn’t come back here. We’ve got to find her and I don’t know where the hell she is.”

Calder puts his coffee down on the counter with a loud smack and Axel jumps up from his chair, swaying a little as he rushes toward the bathroom. I’m guessing he’s about to get ready.
