“Oh,” I murmur.

The disappointment in my voice is evident, but I can't help it. First Zayn acts like I mean less than the gum on the bottom of his shoe, and now Blade has been playing hot and cold all day. Of course, this would happen to me. Now I'm going to lose Blade, and I still won't have Zayn. Not even as a friend.

Blade exhales and reaches over to grab my hand. “Why don't you come with me?”

I perk up at that. “Really?”

“Yeah. I could use the company.”

Biting my lip to contain my smile, I nod. “Where are we going?”

He shrugs. “Just to pick something up. It's a few hours away. We'll probably get back late, though, so if you want, you can just crash at my place.”

My nerves go a bit haywire, knowing exactly what will happen if I take him up on that, but I really don't want him to go back to being the moody, closed-off guy he was earlier.

“Okay, I'll let you know.”

I reach over to kiss him goodbye and climb out of the car.

As I step into my dorm room, Kennedy is sitting on her bed. I'd wonder if she ever left at all, but I noticed her hair and makeup are done. She probably went to meet up with Easton, but thankfully, she's not the kind for details. If I had to listen to the gritty details about her sex life with my brother, I might deafen myself.

She takes her headphones out and smiles warmly at me. “Did you have a good time?”

“It was all right,” I tell her. “Zayn was there.”

“Is that anything new?”

“No, but him ignoring me and being an asshole is.”

She frowns. “I'm sorry. How was the rest of it? Did Blade stop acting like a sex-crazed douche?”

I chuckle at her choice of words. “Yeah. We're actually going on a road-trip tomorrow.”

“You are?” she questions. “To where?”

“He didn't say. He just said he needs to pick something up,” I say nonchalantly. “So I won't be around.”

As I change into a pair of sweat-shorts and a T-shirt, Kennedy looks uncomfortable. She's picking at her sleeve and chewing on her bottom lip—both nervous habits of hers. Finally, I plop down on her bed.

“What?”

She waves it off. “It's nothing.”

I roll my eyes. “Bullshit. Spill.”

“Promise you won't get mad?” she asks, and I nod. “I'm just a little worried about you going somewhere with him. Somewhere far away.”

My brows furrow in confusion. “Why? You were all Team Blade before. What happened?”

Shrugging, she keeps her gaze on her bed. “I don't know. After the way he was this morning, I started asking around about him. Amelia, Zayn might have been telling the truth.”

I throw my head back and groan. “Not you, too.”

“Look, I'm not saying you should stop talking to him,” she defends herself. “Just maybe keep your guard up a bit. He doesn't exactly have the best reputation around here.”

I take her computer and move it out of the way before laying down with my head in her lap. “I've spent every day of the last two weeks with him. I think I would know if he's the devil in disguise. But if it makes you feel better, I'll be careful.”

She exhales in relief. “It does. I want you to be happy, but I want you to be safe, too.”
