"Are you going to be able to handle all of this?" the driver asks, referring to my six suitcases.

I look down at my whole life stuffed inside of several Louis Vuitton suitcases and back at the guy. He reads the look on my face with ease and chuckles softly.

"I'll park the car and be right back to help you out."

Running my fingers through my light pink hair, I smile. "Thanks."

He scurries away, eager to help who he thinks is a young college girl in need of assistance. I won't hurt his ego by correcting him—especially not if he wants to help me lug all these bags to my new dorm room. I'm sure I could manage on my own, or sucker someone else into helping me, but I'd really rather not. As he pulls away to go park, I go back to taking in the scene in front of me.

Students fill the area, only half of them paying attention to the world around them. Girls shoot dirty looks in my direction and guys eye me with lustful curiosity, but none of them are the one I'm here for.

Good.

I want my presence to be a shock to his system.

One that keeps him up at night.

One that always has him looking over his shoulder.

I want to make his life a living hell.

After a quick stop at the administration office to get my key, student ID, and class schedule, Noah, the overly accommodating Uber driver, helps meget all the bags up to my room. It's not graceful by any means. To be honest, he looks miserable as he tries to maneuver all the suitcases up each flight of stairs—because no one leaves a bunch of Louis Vuitton suitcases unattended—but he makes it work. I find the right dorm number and use my key to unlock the door.

Walking into the room makes me feel like I was thrown straight into yesteryear. The vintage movie posters papering the walls and the handmade quilt covering one of the beds is enough for me to know that whoever my roommate is, we're nothing alike.

"Uh, wow," Noah quips. "That's..."

I roll my eyes and walk over to the empty half of the room reserved for me. "Bullshit, that's what it is."

He chuckles and slides all my bags closer to my bed. "Maybe she'll surprise you."

"She literally has a sign above her bed that says Tofu Never Screams," I deadpan.

Looking over at the exact sign I'm referring to, he snorts and shakes his head. "Yeah, okay. You're fucked."

"Thanks."

He leans against the wall and crosses his arms over his chest. "You could let me take you out. Give you an excuse to not be here."

His attempt at asking me out is almost smooth.

Almost.

The guy standing in front of me is not ugly by any means. He has brown hair in a surfer style cut, and the T-shirt he's wearing is tight enough to show he works out. If I wasn't so determined to not let anything get in the way of my plans, I might consider his offer, but I can't.

"As much as I think you'd be a lot more fun than my Fish Are Friends roommate, I'm going to pass," I say, letting him down easy.

Noah smirks, as if he already expected that answer. "Boyfriend?"

Ugh, of course. Because clearly if a girl doesn't want to date a guy, it must mean she's already taken. The concept that I'm just not interested is so outlandish to him, that he doesn't even see that as a possibility.

"I don't do boyfriends," I snip. "The whole idea of being tied to someone simply because society tells you that's how it's supposed to be? No, thank you. I'm perfectly fine on my own."

His brows raise in surprise and he nods before pushing off the wall. "Okay. I'll leave you to it then, Miss Independent. But give me your phone for a second."

I squint in suspicion but hand it to him anyway. He swipes it open and gives me a disbelieving look when it comes to life with no issue.

"What?" I ask.
