I roll my eyes. "Your cockiness is obnoxious."

"It's pronounced confidence, babe."

With a wink, he walks away and leaves me fuming. It's like nothing I did earlier affected him at all. He's still perfectly happy, looking at me like I hung the damn moon. Is this why people say not to react to a bully? Because if he thinks that's what's going to make me stop, he's wrong. I won't stop until his life is in ruins.

I find Kennedy in the mix of cheerleaders and wave to her. She jogs toward me and reaches over the fence to give me a hug.

"I still wish you were on this side of things. With your sass, you'd be an incredible cheerleader."

Shaking my head, I smirk. "Never going to happen."

"Never never or just like probably not?"

"Never never," I confirm.

She rolls her eyes but nods. "Fine. Zayn and Easton are up there. I think Jace and Paige will be here soon, too. It's Carter's first game, after all."

Great, now I want him to lose even more.

I wish her luck and make my way toward the guys. Easton slides over to put me between him and Zayn, but when I look at him oddly because of it, Zayn laughs.

"People here get a little rowdy," he explains. "You're safer between the two of us."

I narrow my eyes on Easton. "Because men are the only ones who can hold their own? Is that it?"

He holds his hands up in defense and leans away from me. "Kennedy would cut my dick off if something happened to you. I'm just doing what she told me."

Zayn watches us with amusement on his face, and when I sit down, he doesn't take his eyes off me.

"What?" I ask.

He chuckles. "You're just like him, just female."

"If you're saying I'm just like Carter, I will riot."

Shaking his head, he clearly finds this funny. "No, definitely not Carter. My best friend. Knox. You two are so similar it's scary."

"Sounds like a good guy."

"The best."

I like Zayn. He's good for Amelia and would clearly do whatever it takes to protect her. Easton, on the other hand? Most days I want to kick him in the nuts just to see if it'll knock some sense into him. If he keeps hurting my girl, I'll have no choice but to hurt him.

I WISH I COULDsay the game is a horrible one. That Carter and his team were brutalized and dragged down the field by their jockstraps. Hell, I'd even go with a close one, but it's not. It's a fucking murder scene out there, in favor of NHU. And to make matters even worse, Carter scores not one touchdown, but four.

Every time he manages to score, he comes back over to the bench and looks up at us—smiling directly at me. It's like he knows that every touchdown is just another jab in my side, and he's rubbing it in.

The only thing worse than an asshole is a conceited one.

As the final buzzer sounds, the only thing running through my head is what I can do to get under his skin, and when my eyes meet Mason's, it clicks.

This party should be fun.

A PART OF MEassumed that the celebration party would be at Zayn and Easton's. After all, they throw the best parties, even if their house isn't the largest. But I was wrong. Instead, it's being hosted at a huge mansion that the team rents out solely for parties after games.

The huge chandelier that hangs from the ceiling is an accident waiting to happen, and the walls look like they're actually shaking from the music that vibrates the floors. But I have to say, the energy is magnetic. The team is glowing after winning their first game of the season, and it's rubbing off on everyone else.

Kennedy and Amelia stay by my side as I look around the party. It honestly reminds me of the ones Davi used to bring me to. Although, when we went to those, we always ended up being the center of attention. I think I'm enjoying being in the background this time. I never really enjoyed all the attention. I'm more of the hide in the shadows type.
