"Hey, Trayland," he answers.

"Hey. Sorry I missed your call," I tell him.

Jace snorts. "He was a bit tied up."

Ugh. "Can you go play in traffic?"

Wyatt snickers at our bickering. "Do I even want to know?"

"No," I answer at the same time Jace says “Yes.”

"I really need a new best friend. Anyway, did you find anything yet?"

"I did," Wyatt confirms. "Noah Iverson. He's twenty-six years old and the reason no one there seems to know him is because they don’t. Up until the end of July, Noah lived in Miami and was an employee of VinSorr International."

My brows furrow. "That's Davianna's dad's company."

"I figured as much," he says. "Do you think Tyeler has any idea she's being spied on?"

"I'm not sure. It wouldn't be the first time that man intruded on her privacy, but if she knew, I don't think she would have told Kennedy they met when she moved here."

He hums. "Should I find a way to get him pulled back to Miami? I can fake a warrant."

"Of course you can," I reply, amused. "But no. I'm just going to keep an eye on him for now."

"Sounds good, boss. Just let me know if you change your mind."

"Thanks, Wy."

As we get off the phone, I worry about how Tye would react if she finds out that even Noah isn't who she thinks he is. It's bad enough she has a vision of Davi that is so skewed from the truth, but Noah too? At least she has Kennedy and Amelia. They're as real as it gets.

IT'S A WEDNESDAY AFTERNOONwhen my heart sinks inside my chest. I'm walking through campus from one class to another when I see a bunch of people staring at the roof of one of the buildings. At first, I decide to mind my own business and push through them, but when I hear someone shout “Jump!”, I stop.

"That's not fucking funny," I tell the guy.

He shrugs. "It's not my problem a crazy ass with pink hair is on the roof."

My stomach drops and my head spins so fast I almost get whiplash. When my eyes land on Tye, the feeling doesn't get any better. She's on the roof, not exactly on the edge, but it looks close enough for her to fall off if she so much as stumbles.

I quickly force my way through the crowd and into the building, taking the stairs two at a time. When I finally reach the roof, I'm only slightly relieved to find her standing there. In one hand is a bottle of vodka and in the other is a familiar-looking book.

Where have I seen that before?

Tye looks over at me and rolls her eyes. "Ugh. Go away."

"With you up here? Not a fucking chance."

She scoffs. "Such a goddamn hero complex. Where was this version of you when Davi was alive?"

I try to remember to breathe and stay calm. "This version of me exists because of what happened to Davi."

"That's rich." She takes another swig and looks out in the distance.

"What are you doing, Tye?"

She shrugs. "I wanted to feel what Davi felt. I mean, she talked about how being on the roof made her feel like she could fly. Maybe that's what she was doing that night. Trying to fly."

The drunken giggle she lets out tells me she's drunker than I originally thought. Especially if she's making jokes about Davi's death.
