He still won't get out of my way.

My fist clenches by my side, and I can faintly hear Carter in the background as I don't look away from this guy.

"Tye, don't do it," he warns.

"Last chance, asshole. Out of my way."

The zombie laughs at me. Actually fucking laughs at me. And it's the last thing he does before I punch him straight in the mouth.

He stumbles backward and covers his lip, finally breaking character. "What the fuck!"

I shrug. "Should've moved."

"It's called an experience!"

"It's called self-defense."

I slide back over to the group, with Carter who is pinching the bridge of his nose and laughing to himself. The zombie, though, isn't as amused.

"You need to get the fuck out of here," he tells me.

I snort. "Aw, is your ego hurt because you got hit by a girl?"

He takes a step toward me, and Carter springs into action. He puts himself between us and raises his hands at the guy.

"Okay, okay. I'll take her outside." He looks at Zayn and tells them to keep going before draping his arm around me again. "Let's go, Mayweather."

It takes a bit of navigating for us to find the exit in this place, especially with all the decorations and low lights, but we finally manage. As we reach the gate everyone seems to be spilling out from, I sit on the concrete wall beside it. Carter comes and sits next to me, far enough away to give me space but close enough to still feel the electricity that buzzes in the air between us.

It stays silent for a bit, the two of us choosing not to say anything at all, until a guy dressed in costume and meant to scare the crowd starts creeping his way toward me.

"You do not want to fuck with me, my dude," I tell him.

That doesn't seem to stop him until Carter chuckles. "No, seriously, man. The only reason we're out here is because she decked another one of you in the face."

The guy fully breaks character and starts cracking up. "Please tell me it was Todd. That guy is always bending the rules."

I shrug. "Tall guy. Dressed as a zombie. He cornered me against a wall and was breathing in my face."

He comes closer and puts his hand out for a high-five. "About time he got what he deserves."

When he walks away and goes back to scaring people that pass by, Carter and I can't help but laugh.

"Only you would manage to make friends with one of these weirdos because you punched another."

I chuckle and shrug one shoulder. "What can I say? It's a real gift."

“Your boyfriend should be proud,” he jokes, but there is a hint of sadness to his words.

Running my fingers through my hair, I decide to set the record straight. “He’s not my boyfriend.”

“What?”

“Noah,” I clarify. “We’re just friends. He and I are strictly platonic.”

His brows furrow. “But Kennedy said…”

“I know what Kennedy said, but it’s not true.”
