Lennon whispers something into her ear with a tug on her arm, and Tess snaps out of the trance she was in. The two of them walk to their desks, and I do my best to pull my attention away to avoid suspicion.

“Who here knows the story of Romeo and Juliet?” I question, and most of the kids raise their hands. “Jacki, what’s the main dynamic of the relationship between the hero and the heroine?”

“That they’re forbidden to be together,” she answers.

“Good.” I look around the room. “And Skye, why are they forbidden to be together?”

“Because their families are enemies and their parents won’t allow it.”

“Does that stop them?”

“No.”

“Hell, yeah!” one of the stoners shouts. “Stick it to the man! Who needs parents? At least they get their happy ending.”

Snickers echo throughout the room as I roll my eyes in amusement. “Sure, Matt, if you call a double suicide a happy ending.”

His face drops for a second before he laughs, no doubt high off his ass.

I do my best to keep my attention off Tessa, but it’s easier said than done when I can feel her eyes on me. I give in and look over for a second. She smiles, and I’m completely fucked because I instinctively smile back. It must last for longer than I intended, because Lennon purposely drops her book on the floor, pulling my focus back to where it belongs.

Away from Tessa.

OKAY, SO IF I thought it was hard to resist her before, it’s drastically more difficult after I’ve broken that seal. Sleeping with her before I knew she was going to be my student was one thing. I could separate the two, almost like it wasn’t actually her. There was the Tessa I met at the club, and the Tessa who sits in my classroom every morning for an hour and a half. But kissing her yesterday made it so the two molded together. The kiss, the way she tasted, the want and need behind it all… It was exactly the same as the first time, but more.

The final bell rings and the students from my last class gather their things and start to leave. Unfortunately for me, the juniors are even worse than the seniors with the way they shamelessly attempt to flirt with me. Just as a few of them bat their eyelashes at me on their way out, Tessa steps in. She shoots them a dirty look that has them scurrying away, and the sight alone makes me laugh.

“Do you enjoy having girls fawn over you all day?” she asks when we’re finally alone and the door is shut.

“No,” I tell her. “They’re practically children.”

Her brows raise, and I immediately know exactly what she’s thinking.

“Okay, that’s not what I meant.”

She bites her lip to hide the smile. “Careful babe, yo

ur old is showing.”

I can’t help but laugh. “You’re a little shit.”

“I know,” she tells me, popping a piece of chocolate from my desk into her mouth.

As I work on packing up my stuff, Tessa makes it more difficult by sitting on top of one of the student desks, scrolling through her phone.

“Okay, what is #PoorColby and why is it trending?”

I snort and shake my head. “You don’t want to know.”

Her legs dangle off the edge, and I’m almost positive her skirt is at least three inches shorter than it was this morning. Finally, when she can’t wait any longer, she hops down and walks toward me.

I grab her hands from where they rest on my shirt. “Tess, we should talk.”

She sighs, as if she saw this coming. “Why? So you can tell me for the millionth time how wrong this is? That it’s against the rules and we shouldn’t do it? Save it, Asher. You’ve said it enough. No need to waste your breath.”

Turning, she goes to walk away and it triggers something inside me. I reach out and grip the back of her neck, spinning her around and instantly pressing my lips to hers. It’s not anywhere near as feverish as yesterday’s, but it curbs the craving just enough to focus.

“What was that for?” she breathes as we pull away.
