“Yes, you,” he said, staring at her, his face red and contorted with rage. “She knows about the kitchen. She knows about us in your cabin. And she does not approve. It’s against the employee handbook rules on page twenty-seven.”

The thought of someone watching them in the kitchen mortified her. Yes, she had to leave. She couldn’t stay.

Stepping back from the sink, she walked to the table and picked up the cake.

“I don’t understand what’s going on with you. I don’t know why she would suspend you because of me, but I’ll give you a reason to fire me.”

She carried the cake to him and smashed it into his face.

“A little something I made just for you this morning. Now you can wear it.”

Turning on her heel, she removed her apron and hung it up by the back door. She was done. Time to find some other place. Time to get away from the crazy Burnetts.
