“That’s my property in those pictures, my business,” I exclaimed, staring at her selfie taken in front of my orchard.

“And that’s me.” I pointed to the photo of me standing beneath her apple tree.

“I’m sorry. I, I didn’t think you’d mind.”

“Well if you would have asked then you’d know that I do mind.” I put my hands on my hips, enraged at her complete disregard for my privacy. “Listen, maybe things work differently in the city where you’re surrounded by people addicted to social media and their phones, but out here you can’t just go around sending pictures of people and property that isn’t yours. Especially not ofmyland!”

Samson came running at the sound of me shouting, sitting at my feet with his ears pushed back and absolutely no fierceness in his eyes – still not a guard dog.

“Excuse me, but you’re the one who invited me here for dinner, you know. And this photo,” she pointed to her apple tree again, “That’smyproperty that you were snooping around on, remember?”

“You don’t understand,” I raised my arms, flustered at her stubbornness. “Amber would love to get ahold of those.”

“I’m only sending them to my friend! What do you think she’s going to do with them? Sell them on the black market? Or even worse: hand over your deepest, darkest apple secrets based onwhat? The blurry leaves in the photo?” Now Helen was flailing her arms as she stormed out of the room.

“Just delete them, pl—”

“And who the hell is Amber?!”

I froze, unable to form a coherent thought outside of my fury. Why was she being so hard headed about photos that she should have never taken in the first place?

“You know what,” Helen continued as she ran down the stairs and to my front door. “Nevermind! This was all a huge mistake. Don’t worry. It won’t happen again. Any of it.”

Samson whined beside me as Helen slammed the door shut.

“Shit!” I screamed at the closed door. How dare she? Little did she know that if Amber ever got her hands on those, I’d be toast. My last fling almost lost me my custody of my kids. I wasn’t planning on letting a one-night stand do the same.

Helen’s bold actions in the pool and the openness in which she’d shared details of her life with me had made me reconsider the assumptions I had previously made about her. But this morning revealed what I had already known: we were from entirely different worlds.
