“Give me your location. What is around you?”

“Use your bond Seb. The binds are working how they should.”

“Bond?”

“Yes, I can feel you getting closer. I can feel your anxiety. You are near me. Your instincts to find me are working.”

“Are you safe? He hasn’t hurt you?”

“No, he hasn’t. I’m safe, but I don’t think he wants me to leave.”

Blake got up from the bed and lingered out of sight for a moment and I jumped out of bed and glanced around the landscape outside.

I tapped into my extra hearing strength and could hear tyres scrunching over gravel. Looking at the ground, the road outside the house would make the same noise.

“They’re here,” Blake said. I spun to his voice. He had dressed in dark grey sweatpants and nothing else. His tanned torso showed a small amount of hair over his wide chest. His stomach was as hard as nails and indented deeply at the slash of each of his abs.

“They are.” There was no point in acting dumb.

“Are we going to make something work?”

He shook his head, and I closed my eyes in response.

A car pulled up outside the house, and two doors slammed one after the other.

“What happens now?” I asked.

“I let you go,” he said.

My eyes popped open at that. “Just like that, you’ve fought for me all these lives and you finally have me bound to you and you let me go.”

“You’ll come back to me. You won’t be able to stop yourself.”

“Blake... Blake,” Seb shouted.

Blake walked to the window and looked out.

I joined him and opened the pane, and shouted, “I’ll be down in a minute.”

“No, Lacey. This ends.”

“No, Seb,” I hissed.

And as my angels shot into the air, one obsidian black and the other’s pure white wings beating wildly as they rose together. Blake left me at the window and I heard the door to his home open and shut.

And before me. Blake morphed into the man in my dreams. No longer the same angel wings as Kane that he first made love to me as, now his black leathery wings spanned to double his height, dwarfing my angels presence.

There was a silent stand-off, two against one, as they stared at each other. Each wondering how to play the next part of their plan. Seb had a sly grin on his face as though he thought he and Kane could take Blake, but I knew now they were here and things were about to change. But if I learned anything about the dark king, he was much more than anyone would believe.

With a roar, Seb flew toward Blake. His deep, velvety black wings pounded and pulsated outward as he glided into the air to reach him.

Kane didn’t move. He waited and considered the scene taking place in front of him.

Seb collided with Blake, who hadn’t tried to move one inch, and because of that, I half expected the collision to end with Seb being injured, but as both men spun into the distance, I now wondered if Blake was testing him.

Blake’s wings beat, the size not diminished in the surrounding space. He roared into the sky; the sound reverberated throughout me, as quick as lightning, he detonated into Seb. This time only Seb was affected, his wings depleted, falling beside him as his torso rocketed backward.

“Stop,” I yelled into the sky. Blake stared at me as I stood looking up at him from the window.
