But I wouldn’t change this family of ours. Yes, Clay said we’re too intense and boisterous, though soon we were going to be overridden with more noisy little people. Because I promised Seb he would be the next daddy, and I knew these twins inside me were his. But I had to give it to my fated. They’d perfected the art of being fathers, and it didn’t seem to matter how many times I saw my family together. I could never get over how good it made me feel.

The doorbell chimed, and I strolled to the door, manoeuvring Dante, so I sat him at the side of my bump.

Pulling open the door, I grinned at the sight of my best friend. “Hi, come in. Party craziness has already started.”

Zena waddled into my home, holding her tummy to stop her bump from dropping low.

“She wanted to come, not sure if it was a good idea,” Jack said. “I’m sure the dates are wrong.”

Zena was enormous, but her baby was due in another month.

“Stop fretting Jack, he’ll come when he is ready and hopefully it’s tomorrow.” Zena rubbed at her tummy. “How do you keep doing this?”

I waved her off.

Soon she’d know.

The day she held her own in her arms

We strolled into the garden where the party was in full swing. Party banners and balloons were everywhere, on trees, chairs, around the fence. We filled the entire garden with friends and family and better than that; we filled it with laughter.

I bounced Dante on my hip as Kane, Blake and Seb ran around the garden with my little girl. My parents Elizabeth and Daniel and my dad Clay were all in attendance chatting together. They were in deep conversation with Carter and his new partner, soon to be wife.

Giggling from Aria made me smile. She was running circles around Blake, and he was laughing his head off at her speed. Dante wanted to get involved and pushed himself from my hip. He wanted to play too. There was less than one year between the two children, but Dante was a fast grower, already showing his future skills.

“Let’s dance,” Zena said, pulling my hand and I watched as she grooved a little, more a swaying than a dancing, but we could hardly grind our bodies or ballet dance.

“Sweetheart, I really don’t think it would be a good idea for you to dance.” Jack pressed his hand to Zena’s stomach to emphasise how big she was.

“Lacey is dancing too,” she said, pointing to my growing stomach.

“I’m not about to pop though,” I said, running my hand over my tummy. “I’ve still got three months to go.”

“With twins, you’re nearly as big as me, and…” Zena moaned and bent over. I placed one hand on her back and she grasped her swollen belly. Her face turned up to glare at Jack. “If your son is trying to make an appearance today, I… I...” She groaned in pain as she struggled to straighten back up.

Jack smiled and held out his palm. She put her weight on his hand, slowly assisting her to stand taller.

She groaned again.

“I’ll take her inside for a rest,” I said.

“Too late,” Zena said, looking between her legs.

“She’s had the baby, eleven pounds and eight ounces,” I yelled, pressing the mobile against my shoulder. There was a collection of grimaced faces and crossed legs from the guys. I rolled my eyes. They had no clue.

“Congratulations Jack, I’m so happy for you both. I’ll let you have some time and I’ll visit later with some things.”

Zena and Jack had the baby in Clay’s medical wing. It was handy they were at our home when she went into labour. Especially as Clay had told them to stay as long as they needed, which for me was fantastic. I loved them being around. Jack and Kane got on much better now, which was great for me because now I saw Zena more than ever, though they were talking about moving to Scotland soon. Jack and Zena admitted their love to Gray, and he didn't flinch, but asked Jack if he wanted to become the new fae kingdom doctor.

“Thanks Lacey, I’ll get back to Zena and the baby.”

I smiled as I placed my phone on the table. So happy my life had worked out that I hadn’t needed to bind with Jack and let their love thrive.

“Mummy,” Aria said. “Play with me. Dante’s not playing.”

“He’s a baby, soon he will run around too,” I said to my nearly two-year-old toddler as though she was older and not a baby herself.

Aria giggled as Blake swept her off her feet and over his head. “Again,” she shouted.
