“Thank you,” I said. My chest rose high because really all I wanted to do was beg him to touch me again.

Chapter 15

Lacey

Ijoltedonthesofa when I heard a sound outside the home. I ran up the stairs and peered from behind a curtain in a bedroom. The car was still too far away for me to recognise it and I knew I couldn’t take any chances.

I’d already taken a quick glimpse outside the window after the requested five minutes of remaining with the blindfold covering my eyes. And I did as he asked, waited five minutes and then removed it. And when the light hit my eyes in a way I wasn’t expecting, I was sure I was blind for another ten minutes as I tried to focus on my newfound freedom.

I worked out he left me in the middle of nowhere, maybe inside somebody’s holiday home.

It was a pleasant home, though, not the largest, but very sweet. Three bedrooms spread across the top floor, each having their own bathroom, which I suppose was a prerequisite for holiday rentals. The bottom floor had a small snug and one large family area with a fully stocked top-of-the-range kitchen. A large ten seater dining table was on one side of the kitchen and two, three seater sofas adorned the main living area.

It was one of the sofa’s the dark king—now known as Deven—had left me sitting on when I promised not to raise the blindfold.

I didn’t go to the outside of the property. I didn’t want to risk being found by the vampires. Maybe they could smell me. Although, because we flew, I expect that to be hard, as the wind would have taken my scent away.

I continued watching the car as it neared and hoped Deven had come through for me and it wasn’t the owners coming home or worse than that; the vampires coming for me with a more normal way of transport.

The car got closer and closer and I glanced at the driver and ran down the stairs and waited by the door, peeking again through a side window.

The car stopped, and the passenger opened his door and went to get out. I opened the door and ran and flung myself into his arms.

“I thought you would be in a state after what you’ve been through,” Seb said.

“I’m just so happy it’s you and not the vampires,” I said. “Can we go? I need to get home.”

He pressed his lips onto mine, then held me for a few seconds. I glanced at the Blake who was driving and smiled.

“Let’s go,” he said once we both got into the car.

“Thanks for this, Blake,” I said, running my hand over his shoulder.

“No kiss for me,” he said and laughed.

I leaned to his lips and landed a kiss on his lips.

“Thanks, that’ll do for now,” Blake said and smiled.

I smiled back at him through the rear-view mirror and leaned back, putting my seatbelt on.

“How did he contact you?” I asked, once the car was on the main road and off the country road where I still felt so vulnerable on. “Can he speak telepathically to you?”

“Text Lacey,” Seb replied. “I couldn’t get hold of Kane, so called Blake.”

I laughed out loud. “The dark king sent a text.”

“Who?” Seb asked.

“The dark king,” I said.

“Oh,” Seb said.

“Who did he say he was?”

“He didn’t say. Just a message of where to find you.” Seb touched his head. “Seems he only speaks to you that way.”

“Where’s Kane? Is he okay?” I asked.
