I found out his family had argued for those weeks since his death over the type of burial he should have. His father wasn’t around and his uncles had tried to decide instead of his mother, but in the end she won with a normal burial.

They wanted something in the forest, which when I heard, I found bizarre. But people had strange traditions and I would not go against something that suited their family.

Secretly, I was glad though. I wouldn’t have attended that type of funeral and put myself at a risk.

I still missed him, and I'd cried a lot lately, but I was feeling stronger each day than I had. Although being told by Clay that Ryan dying meant the bind to him had broken, I still loved him. I still missed him. I still felt he was bound to me.

Maybe it was his death. It was still too raw that hurt, and the bind had broken. But I now knew I needed to do something about the bind to Carter. He would feel the same as I did right now. It wasn’t fair. I wasn’t being fair. I kept my bind to Carter to fight the dark king and somehow, because I was still feeling it with Ryan, I knew it was time to let go of both with a little help from Clay.

There would be no alteration to my fated bonds, so Kane and Seb would keep the bind.

Though it worried me, I’d need to go through it again with Blake, not in case he wasn’t fated. I knew Blake was a fated mate, but it didn’t stop me from worrying that I might harm him.

Could I harm him?

Could I kill a fated mate during a bind?

I was told I couldn’t and neither could the dark king, but after Ryan’s death and Carter’s constant battle with his fears. I had to either bind with Blake and lure the dark king from his pit and kill him, or I had to release Carter for good and deal with whatever I had to for the next couple of years.

Seb believed the four of us, me, a goddess and my three angels, would succeed in the battle against the dark king, along with the kingdom of knights. But if I could bind with Blake quickly, I could enact the battle sooner rather than later. And I could only wish I was successful and the bond to everyone but my fated mates would vanish.

Yes, that would be the quickest and best plan. I had to get rid of him, anyway. Evaporating two problems with one battle would be the smartest solution.

After finishing washing my hair and body, I wrapped myself in a towel and gave my hair a quick towel dry.

I grabbed my mobile from the dressing table and flicked through my contacts. Hit the call button and waited.

“Hi Blake, are you free for a chat later today? I can come to you,” I said.

“Of course, anytime, you know that.”

I grinned the moment I saw Blake standing outside of his apartment building. His smile was wide when I caught his eye. He strolled to me, his fingers tangled in my hair as he pulled me to him.

There was a momentary lapse as he leaned lower and plunged his mouth into mine.

I inhaled his scent, taking in his pheromones in my lungs, my eyes closed, knowing he was mine. I needed him right now, needed each of my fated mates to get me through this time.

As we entered the lift to his apartment, he pressed the button as I thought about what I was about to ask. Chewing on the inside of my cheek. Was it too much to ask after what happened to Ryan?

I sighed and Blake stared at me, his eyes raised as though he knew something was about to be asked.

“I want you to bind with me.”

Blake smiled. “Good.”

The relief to me was instant, as though all my worries had suddenly ebbed away.

He took my face in both of his hands with a patience I didn’t know was possible from any man. He’d wanted this for so long. His lips joined mine as he slid the tip of his tongue inside my mouth, teasing a dance of what would come. I clenched my pussy and smiled as he spilled a lurid groan onto my lips.

I opened my eyes at that and saw his eyes were full blown, the pale blue rimmed with black, eliminating the light. Just the thought of wanting to bind brought sweat beads to my forehead. I swiped the back of my hand over my head.

“Now,” Blake whispered as the lift doors opened.

“It still needs to be somewhere safe,” I said, because regardless of Blake thinking he couldn’t be killed by the dark king, I wanted to ensure he was also safe from me.

Blake opened the door to the apartment and swooped me into his arms and strolled to the sofa.

“Then we can practise,” he said with a cheeky grin. His mouth dropped on my lips, the sweetest of kisses, and I traced my hands down his back, as his hand slowly caressed my breast as his tongue slicked against mine and the kiss deepened. Our mouths together. I held him tight against my body and closed my eyes as he kissed the curve of my neck. I lifted my head to give him more room as he took hold of my hands and taunted my neck and shoulders with sucking, kissing, and licking.
