“She was; we were complete opposites, but I loved her to pieces.” I gave him a small smile, and he pulled me tighter to him, kissing me on the forehead.

Once the ride ended Mason called Brody, and we arranged to meet everyone by the food stalls. We made our way over hand in hand, catching sight of Josh and Averi all over one another again, Savannah thankfully had her back to them, and she was talking to Jack. “Josh is such an idiot.” I heard Mason say.

“Why do you say that?” I asked him, curious as to what he meant.

“Bringing Averi with him and letting her paw him while Savannah watches. When he finally gets his head out of his ass and admits to himself that he likes her, he’s going to hate himself for hurting her like he’s doing. Unless of course it’s too late and she’s moved on with someone else, then he’ll hate himself even more!”

I turned and looked at him in amazement. “You know that Savannah likes him?” I asked.

“Yes, it’s written all over her face. He likes her too, although right now he’s got a funny way of showing it.” He said, frowning as he looked over to Josh and Averi.

“Has he told you he likes her? God, does Brody know?”

“Not in so many words but he’s hinted at it when he’s been drunk, and his reaction to her dancing with that guy in the bar last week speaks volumes.” He grinned down at me, obviously thinking about his similar behaviour at the bar. “Brody hasn’t a clue, though. I don’t know why Josh won’t tell them how he feels. I’ve tried to talk to him, but he won’t listen.”

“I hate to see Savannah hurting but they’ve got to sort it out themselves, something is obviously holding Josh back. I just wish they would talk to each other.” Mason nodded his head in agreement. “I hope they can work it out before it’s too late.”

“I see you two have worked things out. Are you okay Lib?” Jack asked as he walked over to us, the concern evident in his voice.

I looked up to Mason, who squeezed my hand. “I’m fine Jack, just a misunderstanding.”

“Good. Let’s eat I’m starving.” He exclaimed rubbing his hands together.

As if on cue my stomach rumbled. Mason laughed. “I think my girl’s hungry too!” He led me towards the stalls. Looking around, there was every sort of food you could imagine, burgers, hot dogs, jacket potatoes with various fillings, chips, and nachos. The list was endless. What did catch my eye was one stall selling cookies by the bucket full. They were filling small buckets to the brim with cookies for $10. I was definitely getting one of those to take back to the ranch!

After we had chosen a cheeseburger and chips each, we headed to sit in the picnic area behind the food stalls, the others following with their food. Savannah sat down beside me with a huff. “Urgh! If I have to watch Averi grope Josh once more, I’m going to throw up! That girl has no shame.” I gave her a sympathetic smile and squeezed her hand. “Enough about my sad excuse for a love life! Are you and Mason really okay? What happened?” She asked me in a hushed tone so that no one else could hear her.

I looked across to Mason who was chatting with Brody. “We’re okay,” I said, turning back to face her. “Amber reckons she’s in love with Mason, so she didn’t take too kindly to him telling her he’d met me. He said she was upset and hugged him, which is when I saw them.” Savannah’s eyes widened in surprise.

“She’s in love with him?”

“Apparently. Mason said they’d only been together a few times, but she’d started to get clingy so he’d cooled things with her.”

“God, she sounds like a real catch! What was he thinking?” Savannah said, rolling her eyes.

“He wasn’t thinking, but he definitely won’t be making that mistake again.” Mason breathed into my ear, kissing my neck. I shivered under his touch, he’d obviously heard my conversation with Savannah.

“Well, I hope we’ve seen the last of her,” Savannah exclaimed.

I looked at her in surprise. “You think she might cause trouble?” I asked.

“No, No Lib. I’m sure she won’t, I was just thinking out loud.”

“Don’t worry sweetheart, I made it perfectly clear I didn’t want anything to do with her. She won’t be back.” Mason said confidently. I smiled at him, hoping he was right.

After eating we spent another hour or so around the fair, I managed to persuade Mason to have a go on a couple of the faster rides with me. I took pity on him after the second ride that threw him upside down, though, as he came off looking a pale shade of green. At around 7 pm we made our way over to the rodeo arena to get some seats. The light was starting to fade, but huge floodlights lit the arena. We managed to find some seats near the front, as we sat down the announcer began running through the order of events. There was everything from calf roping, bareback horse riding and bull riding, saddle bronc riding, and barrel racing. I didn’t know what half of the events were, but I couldn’t wait to find out.

The arena was packed, and it seemed like nearly everyone had a cowboy hat on. “Where’s your hat, cowboy?” I asked Mason, grinning at him.

“I left it at home, why?” He returned my smile before leaning over to kiss me on my nose.

“Everyone here seems to have one.” I paused. “They’re hot…”

“You like my hat?” He smirked at me.

“Do you have any idea how sexy you look in it?” I asked him.

“Why don’t you tell me, baby?”
