She hangs up.

A guy who will treat me like a queen. There’s no way in hell that a guy known around campus as a legend will ever humble himself to treat a woman like a queen.

Damnit. Why does my mind immediately go to Rob Blackwood? That guy might not have forced himself on me, but from the way he sent his friends after me, Rob isn’t the guy I thought he was. He’s not a legend. He’s an asshole, and I’m not going to tolerate that. Not at all.

CHAPTER11

I haveto say that the conversation with my mom has really made me change my outlook. The first week of school goes by, and yes, there’s been some more bullying and harassment by Rob’s friends, but I’ve hardly seen the guy.

Unlike the first few bullying encounters, I ignore Ace, Gabe, and Zac. I don’t acknowledge them at all, pretending they don’t exist. Does it get them to stop? No, not at all, and I didn’t think it would stop them. I just want to feel like I have a bit of power left, and if I don’t let them get to me, then I win.

But when Saturday morning comes around, I wake from a very familiar dream. You know the one. The sexy time with Rob.

Enough. I want my mom to get over my father and move past him to have a healthy love life. I need to do the same with Rob.

As I walk in what I think is the direction of Rob’s place and desperately try to convince myself this is a good idea, my phone rings.

“Hey, Robyn.”

“Want to get breakfast together?” she asks.

“What time?”

“Now.” She laughs. “I’m hungry.”

“I’m not hungry just yet,” I say slowly. “You go on ahead.”

“Oh, I can wait some,” she says. “Not more than an hour, so if you haven’t worked up an appetite by then, you’ll have to eat with someone else!”

“Sounds good.” I hang up and narrow my eyes as the line of houses for the upperclassmen come into view.

I feel almost as if I shouldn’t be here, as if freshmen aren’t allowed, but that’s ridiculous. My shoulders back, my chin high, I try to walk with a purpose.

Is that the one? No, this one.

After brushing my blond hair back over my shoulder, I knock on the door. Actually, I more or less pound on it.

I start to pound on it again when the door opens. Rob stands there, hair tousled, looking like he just rolled out of bed, but instead of looking like a mess, he could be heading for a photoshoot, albeit his eyes are a little glassy. It makes me wonder if he had too much to drink last night.

“Katie,” he says. “A bit early, don’t you think? Unless you want a morning delight…”

I roll my eyes. Seriously? Not just from his words, but from the way he’s staring t me, he clearly still wants me.

As if I would want anything to do with him.

“Why would you think I want that?” I demand, crossing my arms and scowling, my eyes narrowing.

“Why are you here?”

“Maybe because I’m sick and tired of your friends and their harassing me.”

“And you think I can stop them?” He sounds amused.

“Are you seriously going to try to deny that you sent them after me?”

“I might’ve told then about how you confused the hell out of me.”

I wince. “You’re going to act as if mixed signals is a reason for letting your friends be complete assholes to me?” I shake my head. “If you think—”
