“How’s it going?” I ask.

“I’m good,” she says, but she sounds a bit breathless.

“Were you in the middle of something?” I ask pointedly.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about!”

“Right. Because you don’t live with four guys,” I tease.

“I do, but…”

“And you don’t just live with them,” I continue. “Somehow, you have a relationship with them all. Together.”

“Yes,” she whispers.

I just shake my head. Erika deserves love. There’s no doubt about that, but four guys? I’m not judging, but how can she keep up with four cocks? It’s just hard for me to imagine. I mean, by the time one cock is spent, another is ready and waiting, and from how utterly satisfied Erika sounds like she is, it makes me think that these guys of her can last a lot longer than a few pumps.

“You don’t have to feel ashamed,” I remind her.

“I don’t,” she says defensively. “Why would I?”

“I’m just sayin’.”

“Well, how’s it going? Today’s your first day, right?”

“Yeah. It’s going. Let’s just leave it at that.”

“Seriously?” Erika sounds almost heartbroken. “What’s going on?”

“I wish…” I squeeze my eyes shut and shake my head.

“When we go to college, we’ll be roommates, right?” I ask Erika when we’re thirteen and just starting high school.

“Of course! I won’t even apply to a college you aren’t going to apply to too. What’s the point?”

We laugh and hug each other and go back to eating our ice cream.

Yeah, that didn’t happen. Erika ran away from Texas to finish out high school in another state. California, I believe. She’s still a bit cagey about where she met the guys, but that’s where they all go to college now.

As for me, I’m still in Texas, just not anywhere close to where I used to call home. I’m so far north now that I’m almost in Oklahoma. Sinking Springs, Texas used to be home for both of us, but not anymore. Never again.

The past is done and over with. Whether or not it tries to break forth to the future and color my world with darkness again remains to be seen, but I’m not hiding.

“I’m sorry,” Erika says.

“Why are you apologizing?”

“We made plans to be roommates.”

“Yes, but things got all turned about because of our fathers.”

“I know, but…” She blows out a breath. “I still want to be there for you, and I still say you should—”

“Even if I were to listen to you and transfer to your college…” I shake my head.

“It won’t be the same,” she murmurs.

“Nope.”
