I’m not aboutto go to sleep early after that. I keep eyeing the bathroom door as if Kora is going to find a way to bust through and sneak into our room. I put away all of my things that she stole and am just shutting my drawer when the door opens, and Lauren walks in.

“You’re here,” she says flatly. Her gaze shifts to her dresser, where I placed the stuff Kora stole from her on top. “You’ve finally felt guilty enough to give me back my stuff, huh?”

“I didn’t steal it,” I inform her.

“So this just appeared out of nowhere?”

“No. You should be happy I’m here because I walked in as Kora was going through your stuff.”

“Kora?”

I nod. “She stole from you and from me. It seems to me that she’s a klepto, not that that excuses what she did.”

“Kora? Wow.” Lauren glances at the bathroom door.

“We should keep it locked at all times.”

“Definitely.” Lauren eyes me. “It really wasn’t you?”

“No. You can talk with Kora if you want. Don’t expect an apology, though. She didn’t apologize when I confronted her.”

“I can’t believe it,” Lauren murmurs. She crosses over to her dresser and examines her things.

“You thought I stole your stuff?” I ask.

She nods without turning around to meet me gaze.

“No worries,” I tell her. “I thought you were the one going through my stuff.”

She winces and faces me. “I guess we should’ve talked to each other about it instead of making assumptions.”

“Because you know what they say when you make assumptions. You make an ass out of you and mptions.”

Lauren rolls her eyes. “Is that the best you can do?”

“Considering it’s been a long day, yes, that just might be the best anyone can expect out of me.”

She smiles. “I’m sorry I thought you were a thief.”

“I’m sorry I thought you were one.”

“So… what happened to your big plans tonight?”

“They fell through,” I mumble.

“Oh. I’m sorry about that. Hey, is it true that you broke a guy’s nose?”

“I didn’t mean to, but yes. He deserved it, though.”

“Joey, right?”

“Do you know him?” I ask.

Lauren nods. “He slapped my ass one day as I walked past him in the café.”

“I can’t imagine you let that stand.”

Lauren beams. “Of course not. I spilled some of my chili on him. It was an accident of course.”
