“No,” the doctor said slowly. “At least, not in my opinion.”

“Good.”

“I want to check in with her from time to time, and you must keep me apprised as to her memory.”

“Yes,” Krav said, waving a hand. “But now I feel that we should be left.”

“I assume you do have things that must be handled between the two of you.”

“Yes. A great many things.”

During the visit with the doctor, Riot had gotten out of bed. They had exercised her while she was in a coma, which had ensured that her muscles were not entirely atrophied. And while she had been unsteady on her feet, and required the use of a walker, it had not taken long for her to begin to move around on her own. “I remember how to walk,” she had said. “I remember everything except... I guess I don’t remember the last...”

“Ten months at least,” he said. “Your trip to Cambodia happened that long ago. And you’ve been in a coma for a month.”

“We met there?” She asked, perched up in bed, only the two of them in the room.

And he was surprised then, how much he still wanted her.

He had managed to shut down the ache while she was unconscious. And while he still felt... Something, every time he was near her, he had managed to transfer those feelings to his desire for Soriya to know her mother.

Now he was there, he could not deny that his desire for her was as it had always been. Purely, deeply sexual.

And now was not the time to ponder it.

“I went to Cambodia,” she said, softly, not looking at him.

“Yes, you did.”

“I can’t believe I had a whole adventure and I don’t even remember it.”

“Well, cara, you are still on an adventure.”

Her head whipped around and her eyes widened. “That’s right. I’m in Rome, aren’t I? And I assume you don’t mean Rome, Georgia.”

“I do not,” he said, looking at her.

He had grown accustomed to her face, but sleeping. She had looked peaceful these months, lying in bed as if she were under an enchantment. The doctors had held little hope of her waking, but he had been unwilling to give up on her.

Soriya needed her mother.

And what do you need?

Need.

It burst through him like a bomb.

His need for her.

She was here. Speaking to him. Not just asleep. He felt like part of himself had woken up too.

She wasn’t looking at him like he had just broken her whole world.

She was looking at him like she had that first day.

That was what he had, here and now. A second chance at a first day with her.

“I’m actually in Italy. With a man and I’m...engaged.” She looked at him as if she was trying to place him. “How did we meet?”
