But now she was back. And it was his chance to rewrite what had occurred before.

He would not question the gift.

For months he had lived in a darkness he couldn’t get through.

That he had taken this beautiful creature and shattered her.

That he had caused the loss of her child.

Their child.

It hit him now, harder than ever, for that child was Soriya, not merely a possibility but a human being, so small and helpless and dependent.

This new story...

Riot was here, Soriya was here.

He didn’t have to go back to that moment.

He walked down the curved staircase onto the grass below, and went to stand before Riot, whose blond hair was spread out all around her like a halo. She sat up, her cheeks turning pink, and he felt an answering desire echo in his stomach. No matter how many times he had had her, he had never been able to satiate the need that he felt for her.

She was too beautiful. Too perfect.

And the way that she fit in his arms, the magic that they created between their bodies, it was more than simple sex, and always had been.

He had been on the verge of sending her away before she had found out she was pregnant.

Because the heat between them wasn’t dying down, it only seemed to be growing more intense, and he did not have a place for that in his life.

He was not a man who did permanent. Or even close.

And now here he was, bound and determined to make this forever.

But if there was one thing he would not do, it was repeat the sins of his father.

He very nearly had. Perhaps not in the sense that he had done the exact things his father had done to his mother, but in the sense that he had failed. Failed his child. Failed the woman who was bearing that child.

He would not fail them again.

“I rarely see you during the day,” she said, sitting up and pushing her hair off her forehead.

She was such a lovely, delicate thing.

She scooped Soriya up from the blanket and held her close to her breast.

“I was looking for you.”

“We come out here every day,” Riot said, smiling. “She loves to be outside.”

“Good. She has not been away from the estate yet. That is what I wish to speak to you about. We have not...that is...our relationship was private. As was your pregnancy. And given the circumstances surrounding Soriya’s birth...nobody knows that she was born. And no one knows that you are part of my life.”

“And it will matter,” she said softly. “Because you are part of such an old family.”

That wasn’t even the half of it. He was one of the richest men in the world. And the media hounded him like they would a movie star.

Perhaps even more so, because he was so private. So, he was a point of interest. Somewhat unknowable.

“There will be interest in the fact that I’m getting married. There will be interest in the fact that I’ve had a child. I could send an announcement out to the media, but I do wonder if it would perhaps be best if we were just...seen together.”
